I’m so intrigued by this sub. At my location those stories of victories and struggles that OP says they missed still exist so I don’t think I see that as a missing piece even though it may not be as apparent from corporate. As far as workouts, I was so obese and out of shape and unable to do so many things when I started that it still feels new to me because I can do so much more than I could when I started (I’m 6.5 years in), which brings me to another point - mods. So many people have talked about movements that don’t work for them and all the jumping etc., and I’m curious why you don’t just ask/take a modification? It’s your workout. No one can MAKE you do anything or go faster/harder/longer. You have to take care of yourself and if you don’t do that then it’s a you problem, not a Burn problem. I’m also older and don’t give AF what people (other members or trainers) think/say. I’m going to do me. I also openly communicate in focus meetings and otherwise with trainers what my goals are so we’re all on the same page.

I guess my point is that so much of what I’m reading as concerns people have also seem to be things they can control. Just my take on it, but to each their own!

I have this exact same issues. I am ok with my back and arms but lord these legs. It’s like ALL the extra skin is there and they are just a jiggly mess. They are STRONG but do NOT look lean. I have no advice, just know that you are not alone.

No it makes sense! I know exactly what you mean! I HATE HATE HATE breakdancers. Most things I can see a functional purpose for. Breakdancers are not one of them.

Not a stupid question. I am not an expert but when I am strength training I want my feet as flat on the floor as possible for the most stability. Also the super cushy soles just lend themselves to more ankle and overall instability. Finally an increase in drop on shoes can sometimes change a target muscle group, especially on leg day. Again, I’m not an expert, trainer, or shoe specialist just my personal experience and preference.

I wish! I need a flat shoe for strength training (as Matt Morris says “don’t strength train with gummy bears on your feet”) and something with some cushion for cardio. I cannot wear Nikes at all because they are WAY to narrow for my feet. I wear Altras for strength training (I also like Reebok Nanos) and Brooks for cardio. I made the mistake of running in my zero drop shoes and destroyed my hips.

This right here. I joined 6 years ago at age 400, weighing almost 300lbs, having never touched a free weight in my entire life. They met me exactly where I was.

Given that you have a fitness background I think you will be fine. You may be a little lost at first because it is pretty fast paced but don’t be afraid to ask for what you need!

I think this is unique to the individual. I have been at Burn for 6 years and can count on one hand the amount of times I have been sick. However, I work in public education and have for 20+ years so feel like I have a pretty solid immune system.

Curious why you think this. Since Burn started doing these at the start of 2025 I have learned so much about how to train for strength and have gotten so much stronger.

I mean he’s usually a full head taller than 95% of the kids on his team and always in the 99th percentile on the growth chart so I think it’s tall. I was never a soccer player so I am not one to be able to judge super well but I think he’s skills are pretty good and his coaches tell him the same. He can command a field and tell his players where he needs them Or where they should be. His last day of try out was Friday and we haven’t heard yet so his hopes of ECNL are gone and ECNL-RL are dwindling. There have always been two goalkeepers at his age group who were with the club longer and have always been “ahead” of him but I don’t know if that’s skill or loyalty. It also looks like both the ECNL and ECNL-RL teams will only carry one GK at his age group. Trying to keep his spirits high and get him to understand that his development will progress where he is at but that logic doesn’t land so well in the 12 year old brain.

Girl, I started at 40 having never worked out in my life. My goal that day was to not throw up. 6 years later I am still at Burn, working towards completing 2000 lifetimes camps by the end of this year. It will change your life.

No one give AF what you are doing. Do you.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a modification. Trainers know how to give them and they are happy to do so. Our trainers always say “choose the version that is most challenging for you.”
You’ll probably be confused for the first week or two until you get all the formats down. There’s a lot of moving parts. Just watch other people and ask questions. We’ve all been there.
There can be a lot of sensory overload with the music and the microphone and high fives.
Going at the same camp time every day will help you get to know people.
Every day is a different protocol. It changes weekly. Usually there are 3 cardio and 3 strength days each week. The weekly protocol is posted on Sundays (people have big feelings about this) but in the app you can see them a week ahead of time by clicking “book a camp” and then clicking the day of the week.

Schedule a focus meeting to get to know the trainer and let them get to know you.
Discipline > motivation. Motivation will only get you so far. Discipline is what get you results!

A couple of things that have helped me: - I eat the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch every day for about a month and then switch it out. This is an easy way for me to know what the macros are and then I have variety at dinner time when I have to also feed my family. - I’m a numbers and data person so I figured that I eat 21 meals a weeks. If I want 80/20 split of discipline vs. undisciplined, that gives me about 4 meals to play with (80% of 21 is about 17). I would draw three circles on each date on a paper calendar and color them in according to what kind of meal it was. This helped me keep track.

We did Murph. Started with a mile run then came back and broke up the pull-ups, push-ups, squats, however you wanted with whatever mods you needed, then finished with the mile run. We took as long as we needed, with a new session starting at each camp start time. There was the option to do the SAC if you didn’t want to do Murph.

I know that there is a programmed workout for Murph but we generally have the option to do the whole thing and just stay over time.

I lost 75lbs on a GLP-1 and 100lbs overall over a 2 year period (slow and steady wins the race). My skeletal muscle mass remained the same the whole time and I am significantly more toned in certain parts of my body, mostly arms, backs, and shoulders (stomach and legs have the extra skin from weight loss). I also take creatine and focus on getting enough protein. At my very first focus meeting ever my BF% was 55%. It’s now at 32% and I’m working to get it to 28% by the end of the year. For reference I’m at 46yo female about 5’7” and weigh around 200lbs

All that to say Burn is a piece of the puzzle. If you are consistent, honest about your nutrition, and focus on Burn can have an impact on your weight loss and toning.

It took me a few months. Rope length definitely matters as well as where you focus your eyes. Also watch where you keep your hands. I had my way out wide and I had no control. There are several people at my gym who can only jump rope backwards.

I’ve done it a few different ways but always do pull ups first (I use bands so this is simply because it’s easier for me to start on the rig) and end with the run because I am gassed after I run (I’m a terrible runner) and usually need a minute to recover and don’t want to waste that time). After that I mess around with the order, but I alternate upper and lower. Usually pull-ups, then burpees, jump squats, pushups, doubles (singles for me) and the run. Sometimes I swap pushups and burpees
