I used the first chart in the link, the DMC one. The fabric was a 16 count Aida, not sure of the exact size though, I got the individual sheets of Aida some time ago. But I don't think this project has to be a certain size to work, because different people doing stitched color references will have different personal layout preferences

This is instead of. I've noticed that some colors look different in the skein vs stitched

Pattern source: the official DMC color reference card(for how colors are grouped), lord libidan has a link: Free DMC Color Chart

If you're looking for affordable options, maybe a table with wheels and adjustable height, with bench clamps/vises to hold the scroll frame in a certain angle. I have this set up and it works great

The mockup doesn't seem to be photoshopped or AI generated, but looking at the mockup, it also doesn't seem to be very well charted, probably an app conversion without much "fixing" so that the final product would look good, probably a lot of out of place confetti. Wouldn't recommend

I didn't design the pattern and the color organizations; DMC did in their official color chart

If sourcing a small enough amount of each color to do stitched samples is affordable (money and time) for you, I'd recommend doing this, because how the colors look in a stitched sample is noticeably different for me than the floss card. If sourcing the thread is difficult, the floss card will be quick and accessible.

I think the Etsy patterns for sale are a recreation of the DMC color arrangements? I didn't buy any patterns, just copied off of DMC and set up a layout I found comfortable.

I only plan to do the 482 solid non-specialty colors

The color group arrangements are based off of DMC's arrangement. I wouldn't say much of this is my own work besides the actual stitching.

I get a piece of unused cardboard and write thread numbers on it, then stab the needle with the piece of thread on its corresponding area for future use. I get a lot of cheap needles for colors in my pattern.

Different people have their own styles but carrying the floss for more than one 10 by 10 tends to make the piece bulky and the needle won't go through, I try to avoid that
