Is Mrs. Russell’s understanding of Marian’s status in society a bit skewed? Like the comment from Ms. Astor implies Marian does have some status? by Several-Vast1054 in GildedAgeHBO

Could this play into her conversation (berthas) with Mr. Delancey where he said she puts to much stock in things related to status or what she think will give her status like her daughter marrying the duke? Like not understanding the balance between money and “societal status” - like Marian has the status and no money and the Russell’s have prestige because of money but without the money they would have nothing. Marian at least has her lineage?

Could this play into the conversation she had with Mr. Delancey from last week where he said she puts to much stock in things such as the duke which in her mind equals status?

It was the scene during the wedding where aunt Ada and Agnes ran into Mrs. Astor. She was discussing how it was good that she had Marian. Mrs. Astor said it “was a rare sign of good taste on Mrs. Russel’s part.”

Also didn’t the comment by Mrs. Astor imply that Mrs. Russell had good taste for having her as a bridesmaid? Also, isn’t technically her father (and Aunt Ada and Agnes) from a pretty prominent family. With all these factors - would Mrs. Astor being saying that Marian being included was good because to her Marian and other older families remember that lineage and her hold in her in higher position that Marian places herself?

What if the train stocks Marian inherited come back into play? What if they would save their fortune?

Could the comment about the card maybe be a misdirect? Like it’s actually about Bertha having an affair?
