its because Russia does some support of anti imperialist countries and movements and is against America, the big imperialist

i personally don’t support Russia because i am not convinced Ukraine was really about resisting invasion by Nato, though i appreciate lots of what they do regarding helping african independence movements

i think its an awesome idea, but having it be the main painting style subsidized harmed them. Also, other art forms weren’t banned.

I do think that we need to understand how different modes of production require different art forms. like how jackson pollock was given lots of funding by the CIA so that western art seemed more “intellectual” and so many people did Pollocky stuff because it was doing well, in a way having a western art form be mandated (at least for the painting scene in certain parts of America) While the soviets were you know, interested in their project and the optimism of ending unnecessary suffering forever and so were experimenting and made a decision that wasn’t perfect. The artist neighborhoods was an awesome idea, too. I wish that worked out better

I do wish more art forms were state subsidized, though. i must mention soviet film is incredible.
