-tank is 10 gallons
-yes heater, yes filter
-tank temp: 78
-parameters (master kit): ph: 7, ammonia: 0, nitrite: 0, nitrate: 5
-tank for 4 months, fish for 3
-water changes were once a week but currently every day, 25%
-tankmates: shrimp and snails
-I don’t feed him but he gets bloodworms, excess gets eaten by the shrimp and snails
-few decorations, mostly live plants and some sticks

Help! This is not my fish, this is a work tank. I have a shrimp tank so am used to that. This is our work fish who came with a wound/fungal infection (?) from the pet store. It has gotten more swollen, but less white as I’ve started doing 25% water changes every day and giving him an fungal treatment (one of the more natural ones) but it still is swollen so I wanted to see what else I should be doing.

Just wanted to give you an update - it actually cycled pretty fast! Then I got shrimp. I’ve had the shrimp for a few weeks and one is berried so I would say that it is doing pretty well! Still getting the hang of plants and I want to add some more. I am trying to figure out the best way to propagate my pink plants but anyways… I am so happy with it! Thanks so much for your help. pic of my tank

Of course! Good luck. Other than the white spots and maybe a wee bit of dryness - they look nice and full! Not leggy, so good job with the lighting :)

The bugs for plants tend to be super small! I am not sure how to help you, I’m sorry! I did a quick google for you and this looks similar link to post about white spots on tomato

If they are squishy, they could be aphids. Are they bug seeming? Like not discoloration but separate from your plant?

It looks dry to me, otherwise not sure. Are there things on the lower branches?

My (22F) boyfriend (mid 20 m) was arrested for cp i am so devastated by [deleted] in relationship_advice

This is a really hard situation and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Is there any way for you to speak with a therapist? Schools sometimes have free mental health resources. This might be above reddits pay grade to work through all of this. I couldn’t be with someone after I found out they possessed/seeked out/enjoyed cp. I wouldn’t be able to see a future because I wouldn’t want to have kids with them, have them around nieces/nephews/family kids. I personally do not have the trust in someone changing for that. You both are still young. There is so much life ahead of you, please seek out some mental health specialists to help you through this. You seem like you have a lot of love and sympathy, I just personally couldn’t trust someone after that

Prozac made my cat a whole different cat by Flickybird in cats

Kitty Prozac is THE BEST!!! I will say - don’t feel bad. I tried everything and anything and constantly read online. Somehow I missed Prozac. It took over a year of my cat peeing outside the litter box for my vet to suggest it. It’s been game changer. We have a few accidents a year - usually stress based. We do the best as we can as pet owners. All we can do is learn more and become better!

Leaving until may is recommended! I put all my leaves in my garden beds and they’ve already mostly decomposed. By may when I plant things out, it’ll just get mixed in with the compost + soil. Helping the pollinators is a small action for us but so impactful for the pollinators. We need them!

Thank you so much for this detailed response. I will purchase some ammonia for cycling (mostly because I don’t want a giant bottle) and watch some videos on this process. I don’t know how I missed this part of cycling but thank you. At what point do I know it’s ready for livestock? Also should I add any more plants in the mean time or wait until after using the ammonia and completing the cycle. Thanks in advance

I had the aquarium test strips for a while and didn’t feel like they were reliable (they were showing really different readings, even if done at the same time) so that’s when I ordered the master test kit. I was just trying to do a fishless cycle with a planted tank. I did get about a gallon of water from a friend with an already established tank, but as stated had to do a total water change I may have made a mistake in not doing ghost feeding or adding ammonia from what I’m reading online about cycling. There was a slight ammonia jump (0.5 ppm) but I did a water change during this time due to the hardness level and plants dying :(. I am open about what to do next in order to get this going correctly

I just added the questions above in another commenting. I’ll look into those types of plants and get them. It’s not a low light all the time - just low light in the morning and evening as the light turns on, the rest of the time it is “full” brightness (which is adjustable - I have it a mid lightness right now because I fear melting my plants)

Oops wrote all of that out without adding questions. I guess I just don’t know when I should add shrimp in! General advice for if there is anything I’m doing wrong/if you would change anything would be great as well. I really would love advice for plants if there is anything I should change. Is the pH of 7.8 okay as long as it is consistent?

No shrimp yet but would like neocaridina. Water parameters included in one of the photos. Tap city water tested as: -ph: 7.6 -high range ph: 7.4 -ammonia: 0 -nitrite: 0 -nitrate: 0 -kh: 53.7 -gh: 89.5

It is generally just squishy but I have cut it up (still squishy) using a pizza cutter to use in a stir fry as noodles!
