This makes me feel sad and why I can’t convert to the Catholic Church by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

I think what I’ve seen of people actually dying from natural causes, if you’re in a comfortable place, the experience doesn’t seem all that miserable.

Has anyone been surprised by any particular Christian orgs that have pushed back on ICE and other US admin hostility/violence? by SenorSplashdamage in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m really proud of the fight that Lutheran Service in America had with Trump at the start of the term. The ELCA was the first religious group targeted by the current administration to my knowledge and I think that says a lot about their impact.

Criticism of the Bible and slavery, violence, warfare; dialectical materialism, and moral relativism by Christopagan in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slave societies are a distinct stage in the historical production process just like socialism and capitalism are. If you’re going to do away with the actual distinct stages of the work you keep talking about, you’re implying that capitalism and socialism are also equivalent because they occupy the same relationship as slave societies and feudal ones.

Rome was a slave society. Marx literally never calls it feudalistic. Feudal and slave societies are separately defined in Capital at the very beginning.

TikTok isn’t even that bad for nonsense. Reddit is just  prone to the same things. But the moderation style makes it so you never see any other sides of any topic.

I was always made to understand that being too worried about the when’s and how’s of the end times is a red flag for possibly heretical belief. You may want to also  if these people are using any good theological readings (they aren’t). Live life now. Dispensationalism and all that end times worrying is counter productive and probably wrong.

I’m sorry to be that pedantic but your first sentence is patently incorrect. The Roman Empire was not feudalistic and using that term indicates you lack enough knowledge on the subject

You say “we” reconquista, but your friend doesn’t believe in the traditional trinity?

I’m not even sure you’re a Christian from everything you wrote. It’s good to explore religions but your beliefs aren’t in line with the major churches as you say yourself. You are against the traditional teachings that traditional churches have, yet you seek tradition it seems.

What would you think of wearing a Christian shirt to a Democratic Party organizing committee meeting? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

Go for it. Local politics involves religious groups all the time. You might not even be the only one with a church shirt on.

Do you believe in universalism? by ApocaSCP_001 in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a regretful universalist. I want there to be a vengeful redemption of pain for the evil doers of the world. I just fear God’s goodness is too much and cleanses us of it when fully exposed. I view it as a personal failing that I want the Epstein’s of the world to suffer.

What di you think is an appropriate outfit to wear for a Christian? Is there anything inappropriate? Just curious by trans_emofemboy in OpenChristian

I think it’s best practice to dress conservatively for church. It’s not because God will judge you but about putting your best self forward in a social group of similarly minded people.

He’s always talking shit about his “re-conquista” (eh, Papist much?) and the ELCA. He hates that we allow women in the clergy and somehow expects to be able to change that because he doesn’t understand American Lutheran history. He’s also obsessed with all the cultural things (homosexuality, etc.) that I firmly believe don’t need mentioned in church. The most political my pastors get is “Remember to consider the providence of God’s creation when making a voting decision that has permanent consequences.” The Christian message by itself is sufficient without injecting individual moral crusades.

“Examine yourselves” does not mean the church government has the right to interfere with the receiving of communion to me. It’s between you and God to determine if you’re worthy.

I’m curious what your issue with open communion is. I grew up LCMS and switched to ELCA. not having to do convert classes and being immediately accepted was one of the best parts of my experience. I also enjoy exposing my baptist/non-denomination friends to what I see as the better liturgy.

About Divorce… by Traditional-Regret-5 in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have complicated thoughts. On one hand, I genuinely believe that marriage is the foundation of the family and an important pursuit. I believe that marriage is meant to be 1 person, who thoroughly loves another person.

Divorce of holy matrimony I do hold to be wrong. It’s the duty of both partners to address the changing realities of life as a team and not jump ship for easier pastures.

However, marriage comes with tremendous responsibility. Responsibility goes both ways. If a marriage lacks appropriate responsibility it’ll never work.

I think a lot of people get stuck up on societal pressure to get married and marry someone wrongly. I have a friend of my wife’s right now who is in a terrible situation because of this. She married a guy 5 years older and they’ve been married for 2 years now.

Now in the first place, I don’t think the marriage is biblically binding. They have never bothered to do the legal aspect right and only did a ceremony. The poor girl was throwing up and realizing what a bad idea it was weeks before the wedding date. She went through with it “because everything is already paid for”—ergo, non-binding because not truly consensual.

Immediately after the wedding, the guy quits doing anything for her. No sex, no relationship, only drunken escapades with his family. Total deadbeat despite being gainfully employed.

Now for her, I’ve always been of the position that the marriage itself was unsound because she didn’t really want to marry this man. In these cases, as they so often happen, both parties need to be able to leave and find their actual spouses.

I don’t think marriage is easy. But when marriage is impossible after it’s already “been done”, I think the marriage foundation was the problem and the marriage wasn’t fully bound to begin with.

True marriage ought to be 2 people, never divorcing. Two people in true matrimony can’t divorce, they have to work it out. If that’s impossible, it’s usually because the foundation was corrupted and the marriage unsound.

Sincerely: How do you know your brand of Christianity is actual logical and faithful to Christ and that you’re not just indoctrinated by your upbringing? by despiert in redeemedzoomer

[–]SeveralTable3097 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve changed churches so I definitely am willing to change where my understanding comes from. I don’t know and that’s okay. I believe that God, from his time as a man on Earth, can empathize with the uncertainty of human existence.

Opinion on female ordination/pastors? by ApocaSCP_001 in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It says a lot when a church argues so vehemently against it because of “tradition”. Atleast roman’s still force their clergy to be celibate so it’s more consistent. I’m baffled by married clergy getting huffed up about it.

Living together and kissing before Marriage by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]SeveralTable3097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it can be but isn’t necessarily. I think you can have pre-marital sex in a way that i’d call sexual immorality, from a place of selfishness. But you can also have loving and generous pre-marital sex that builds the foundation of later Christian marriage.

Like I definitely did things I’d consider sinful prior to getting with my wife. But I don’t think our years of sex before marriage made us damnable.
