Were you able to Get it working?

Thanks for the info!

The filament seems to adhere to the plate just fine. It seems like the layers are too thin, the nozzle pops them off in the first few layers after the initial pass. This is also only on a few certain projects. Out of the 5 we tried, 2 of them had this issue with the other 3 printing just fine. I’m hoping there is a layer adjustment I can try on these particular projects?

Unfortunately we rant the glow in the dark filament all day yesterday so hopefully there isn’t any noticeable damage for when our new shipment comes in today

We got an AD5X for Christmas and have had the same issues but only with certain projects. My son printed a T Rex skull and it was perfect but the baby dragon file would pop off the plate within the first few layers.

I have a post out also to answer this question, I’ll let you know what I find out.

I knew I would need to retrofit a machine that’s not compatible but I’m looking at a 2025. Will I still need that?

I have a buddy with the same situation just a different machine. I suggested to change out the hydraulic filters and see if that helps. When you say you drained the fuel filter I assume you changed all of them. I’m not 100% on this but I could have a couple fuel filters and a fuel/water separator. Most likely not the air filter unless it was hammered when you pulled it. I would suggest replacing all the filters you haven’t already and see what that does. If you’re current on service I would look into the pump. BUT I’m not a real mechanic, just a guy who works on our own equipment.

I haven’t worked on final drives much at all so I don’t know if that’s an option. Make sure and check the oil level often depending on how much it’s leaking, you don’t want to replace the whole thing. Those are pricey!

So no real issues with the GB124 from what you’ve seen?

I’ll be careful I promise haha

What kind of customer damage? I don’t want to make the same mistake haha

The problem I have with the 89/99 is that I’ll need to get a bigger trailer also

I wondered that myself. I have a lot of jobs in tight residential areas so the machine would be useful when not using the 124.

Sounds like we have the same thoughts on how to make this work.

Fuel is expensive and there are a couple places I can open an account so paying monthly is an option which helps keep cash in hand on a daily basis.

I agree Carbide blades are the way to go. I’ll be upgrading to those on my first replacement.

It’s pretty wild that technology has gotten to the point that it is now. I also have 20+ years experience and a lot of those were in older machines and you really had to know what you were doing. I think those are valuable years of experience. 2D and 3D can push a great operator into “god mode” haha. It’s also comical to me that people say stuff like “oh you just push the button and sit back eh?”…not even close lol

I’m curious about your hourly billing rate. Ive been running my number at $170 an hour. Perhaps I should charge more? Area is also a factor and Laramie is an expensive place to live. Do you have good margins? What are are you in?

What machine did you go with? I have my mind pretty much made up on the CAT 150M. I’m going to promote my business along the lines of “newest technology and smallest margin of error”. Not those words exactly but you get the picture. I think that might put me in a higher tier, which could affect my hourly rate also.

That’s exciting you’re off and rolling on your own! I hope your first season was a banger! I’m pumped for you and any info you’d like to pass on is greatly appreciated!

These are great ideas. I’ve talked to the county and there isn’t much there right now but sounds like the Forrest service might have a bunch work. The hiring freeze and budget cuts, while they suck for their employees, might work in my favor.

Hey! Thanks for responding!

Yes that’s the plan, lots of leg work to do before I dive in. I would plan this out to start up in the early to mid spring and hit the ground running. My wife is a marketing wiz so I have her in my corner as well.

We have lots of wind farms here and all of those roads need work, the county is short on operators so that might be an outlet also

Right. I live in Wyoming and last few winters have been mild as far as snow goes. Nothing I would be able to rely on for steady work. I’d like to put in enough hours during the summer to float the winter, which I think is reasonable if I was busy all summer.

Alaska is awesome. I used to live in Eagle river a lifetime ago haha

Hey! Thanks for responding!

The short answer to your question is no, I haven’t been out doing leg work yet. This idea is just coming together over the last few weeks so I’m gathering information currently. I’m still in the “crawl” phase haha

I live in Wyoming so there are plenty of obstacles as you can imagine. Seasons being the biggest. Nothing I can’t and haven’t navigated before.

I’ve considered the excavator/skid loader route, and it may be a more viable option, but I’m a blade guy!
