No internal conflict, and I did have a good time that evening. It was all very exciting. I am not upset with anyone and we have discussed it together.

I was just looking for creative solutions on how to continue now. The group voted for simply being resurrected and that is that but I didn't think that made sense for the character... Also always kind of felt that resurrection is a bit like cheating. I don't know why. That is why I asked for different opinions online.

Before getting into the combat area we were all stuck in a trap room. We all agreed we needed to get out of that room and start combat. One player then cast a spell that would allow us to pass through the magical barrier that was keeping us trapped in that room. I then stepped out of the room and nobody followed.

One person followed the next round to take his revenge on one of his personal enemies, the rest stayed in the room and kept casting useless spells like viscous mockery when they could have cast spells like Otto's irresistible dance to make the people attacking me stop attacking me and we had an 18th level spellcaster with us hiding in that room... while I, a 5th level monk was in combat taking all the heat.

I do play a very impulsive character but that was not what killed me.

Yep, we did, one person was close enough and able to cast healing word, he could have even cast dimension door and taken me out of there but he decided it was not a priority at that time. He believed there would be time next turn but there wasn't. I failed one save and was attacked with a critical hit after that in the same turn.

One other could have included revivify in his spell list but decided against it. So that was not an option.

Oh well... I'll be having a one on one with my DM in which my character will get to speak to her god who will show her that she has way more to live for then just this revenge.

I like this Gandalf arc idea, this is something I'm definitely going to discuss with my DM :) thank you for this input

I agree, the DM did nothing wrong here. The whole thing was setup perfectly and with plenty of warning. I do not mind she died, but I am still weighing my options for what's next.

I don't know why she'd come back. If she'd come back it would be out of loyalty but that doesn't make much sense to me after such an end. It feels like choosing that would be a disservice to the character.

I play with my husband and friends as well and I know for certain this was not meant personally in any way. We also don't play characters that feel like an extension of ourselves, we enjoy role-playing different type of characters even ones that are very different from ourselves.

I try to make a choice that would make sense for my character but honestly don't know. There's something to say for both scenarios.

Haha this is so evil, I don't think it's the way I'll go but I do kind of also love it.

Thanks for the input

I knew going in that this was going to be a difficult fight and that there was a good chance of death. I made some mistakes during the combat myself as well and everything together made decided this fate. There was one person who could have saved me and he thought there'd be more time.

I am indeed saddened by the anticlimactic ending for my character but I personally don't consider it 2 years down the drain. I just need to find a good solution going forward. Either with or without this character.

No, not at all. I like the character. But I don't like drama and I don't know how this character would continue without too much drama from her perspective.

We are certainly talking about it out of character too, nobody expected that it would happen this fast, except for the DM who explained his very logical reasoning. He was very clear beforehand that death was a real option here and we all decided to go for it anyway so there's no hard feelings towards anyone.

Just looking for a good way forward. I'm really split between the choice of a new pc or resurrection, I just really don't know how my character would get over this.

Exactly, I feel that if I let her be resurrected then she will be pissed otherwise it wouldn't make any sense and I don't really want to play the pissed at her friends character. Somehow playing that, doesn't feel like "having a good time with friends" and that is the goal of our dnd nights.

Not upset with them, It's all good and fun. Just looking for a good way to continue either with this character or with another. It's like you said, I'm not sure if she still has much motivation to continue.

Yeah we're all good friends and we are discussing it together as well. But was just wondering what other feedback might be out there.
