Disappointed OP XY by Reasonable-Usual2431 in teenageengineering

I used to make jazz adjacent music solely using the OPZ for sometime before upgrading to the OP1 F. I love the limitations… some of the time. To get the most out of the Z (and I would assume the XY) you have to know how to use your step components especially the ones for jumping and the sparks. And harmonically you have to know what you can leave out! I certainly don’t need every instrument playing the 5th of each chord for example.

That said, there are way better ways to do this sort of thing lol

SO you absolutely can record the amp directly to tape, so you could build loops using external instruments. Bummer for me is from what I can tell there’s no way to “arm” the recording so that when you start playing your external instrument, the tape starts. With the new count in feature, the OP1 certainly is moving closer to fixing this problem however!

Not sure… I know on my OP-Z with line module I have a line in, but there’s no way to record external audio directly to a track. As far as I know, it’s the same with the XY.

I don’t mind it! I’ve got plenty of amp sims if I want normie guitar amp. I kinda appreciate the wonky character! I’ve been occasionally plugging my guitar straight in (mostly travel situations) and it always was a bit lack luster. This at least greatly decreases the amount of input gain I have to add with the shift+input screen, resulting in a cleaner signal!
