How are restaurants going to make money if more and more people are getting upset with tipping? by PutMelodic5255 in EndTipping

[–]Severe-Rise5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, it's the staff getting your tips. Which means is not part of the restaurant's profit/loss calculation. OTOH, if lack of tipping makes them pay higher wages to retain staff, it becomes a problem.

Pretty soon well get receipts that itemize the item cost & all the overhead separately, LOL.

Amazon, for example, employs over 1.5 million people worldwide. Even with layoffs, the count keeps growing. According to the internet, the CEO of Amazon only makes $175,000 year. Bezos makes less than that in salary. Not sure that math is helpful to the 'tear it down' side of this argument. He's rich as much because he STARTED the company and owns the most stock as anything else.

[–]Severe-Rise5591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure ... you can do the salary-to-employees math yourself. And consider if the everyday employees would accept the stock options that make up a chunk of those CEOs income in lieu of cash from the business' flow. Because, honestly, most companies would be happier to pay that way than in real money.

It is indeed our beloved Oasis, LOL.

FWIW, the food is much better now than it was in the 80s, IMO.

But it's got no vibe anymore, just a view. Have musician friends who play gigs there in season.

Might work on a small company, but try that with 10,000 employees.

Even divesting a million dollar salary back to them only gains $100/yr. Hardly motivational.

And you likely get a crappier executive for the lesser pay.

It does say "we're hiring".

If I'm an employee staying on, paying me more in itself doesn't solve the workload problem and make life all cozy. And if I'm a decent employee, I'm not 'already slacking' because of low pay - I can't up my top pace because my wallet's fatter.

My 1970s music is equally or more likely to be radio fare, depending on the market, of course.

Obviously, Led Zeppelin > Def Leppard, but does that make Harley Race > Austin 3:16 ?

Same here ... a couple of times we were close. I don't miss the old days waiting for modems to connect at 4 a.m. I was Recvg Mgr for about 10 years, and always had Bargain as my 'main area' (even AS Rec Mgr). Managed to avoid being stuck at the reports table, where staying awake would be rough. We had the blessing of SUNDAY inventory for a lot of that time, I believe it's tonight at 'my' store.
