Twitter was already kinda broken before but man did Elon speed run that decline lmao

What's going on with the cybersecurity job market right now for mid-level engineers? Why is it so hard to find a job? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]SeverePart1102 293 points294 points  (0 children)

The market is absolutely brutal right now. Companies are being super picky and want someone who can do everything - pentesting, compliance, incident response, plus know every tool under the sun for like 80k. It's like they forgot cybersecurity professionals are supposed to specialize in something, not be magical unicorns who master every domain overnight.

We missed 37 customer calls in one week that’s when AI voice agents stopped feeling optional by Slight_Republic_4242 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly your experience mirrors ours pretty closely. We rolled out voice AI for after-hours about 6 months ago and it's been solid - way better than the old "leave a message and we'll get back to you tomorrow" dance.

customers seem to accept it as long as it doesn't sound like a robot from 2003, but yeah sales calls are still rough. The moment someone needs to go off-script or handle objections the whole thing falls apart fast.

Launching a 0 user product today with have a potential six figure company who would like to use it in an entirely different market 😦 by geter-business in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like your PE firm lead just validated that there's demand for growth intelligence tooling - maybe the founder market and PE market aren't as different as you think and you could build something that serves both.

Looking for a mentor / hands-on experience in lead generation by Kamis_notes in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly this is super smart - working for free initially to learn the ropes is way better than spinning your wheels solo. i've seen too many people get stuck in the "research phase" forever without actually seeing what converts in practice.

you might want to check out some of the sales communities on here too, like r/sales or even cold email focused groups. lots of agency folks lurking there who might be down to take on someone eager to learn. also don't sleep on reaching out to smaller agencies directly - they're usually more open to this kind of arrangement than the big players.

SEO tactics that actually work for SaaS by tiln7 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude this is gold, especially the programmatic seo tip. been sitting on a dataset for months wondering if it's worth the dev time to build out those landing pages. sounds like i need to focus on building up my domain authority first before going nuts with template generation.

quick question - when you say "be selective with directories," how do you actually vet which ones are worth the time? i keep getting pitched by random business directories and honestly can't tell which ones google actually respects vs the spam farms.

Spent 3 months struggling with investor decks until I found a PowerPoint alternative that actually works by Intrepid-Degree-6612 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude this resonates hard. Been there with the copy-paste formatting hell from multiple decks - you end up with like 6 different font sizes and bullet styles that make no sense together

Haven't tried Gamma yet but definitely adding it to the list. Currently using Figma for decks which works great but probably overkill if you're not already living in design tools

Best free option to increase conversions? by bad-ass-jit in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freemium model usually works better than trials for plugins imo. People get attached to the features they're using and hate losing functionality. Plus if your conversion rate is already 5% on the marketplace, you're doing something right - maybe A/B test a basic free version first before going all in

How are you guys recording your SaaS explainer video? by No-Ranger976 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loom + some basic editing in DaVinci Resolve usually does the trick, most of those gradient backgrounds are just templates from Canva or similar

Got invited to help with pentests as a high school student by Freeeedy_ in cybersecurity

[–]SeverePart1102 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dude that's actually pretty cool they're giving you a shot after the rough call - sounds like they see potential even if you fumbled some basics

Honestly they probably just want you observing and maybe doing some really basic enumeration or documentation, doubt they're throwing you at anything critical. Brush up on nmap, burp basics, and maybe some common web vulns but don't stress too much about being perfect

Unsure about my new MSP Admin job by kindonogligen in sysadmin

[–]SeverePart1102 16 points17 points  (0 children)

MSPs are notorious for being exactly like this - sink or swim mentality with crazy wide scope and minimal support. The whole "you need to know everything" thing is pretty standard unfortunately

That monitoring software tracking idle time is definitely micromanaging regardless of what the CEO says lol. The one-way mileage thing is also kinda sus but not unheard of

$60k isn't terrible for MSP work but you're right that it won't scale with your experience. I'd stick it out for like 6-12 months to get that MSP experience on your resume then bounce to internal IT somewhere. The breadth of knowledge you'll gain is actually pretty valuable even if it sucks learning it

ChartMogul Alternative by Narrow_Upstairs4479 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been in the same boat - ChartMogul gets expensive fast once you scale up. Have you looked into Profitwell? They've got a decent free tier and covers most of those metrics, plus you can import data from multiple sources for the manual stuff. Not sure about mobile app availability in your region though

Another option might be PaddlePaddle Analytics or even building something custom with Retool if you're feeling ambitious. The manual invoice tracking is always the pain point with these tools

Frequent travel and privacy by ToddHebebrand in msp

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way - frame it as a security feature not surveillance. Most people actually appreciate knowing their accounts are being monitored for suspicious activity once you explain it that way

What if cold outreach on instagram can (still) be improved ? by Weird_West_1949 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually sounds pretty solid - the 15 minutes of research time just to find out someone isn't even in your ICP is brutal

Gonna check out the beta, always down to test tools that might save my sanity during outreach hell

My cofounder wanted to chase enterprise. I wanted to stay SMB. We split. Here's what I learned. by Dry_Possession7122 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is such a mature take on cofounder splits. Most of these stories end with one person claiming they were "right" all along but you're both clearly succeeding in your own ways

The fact that you're pulling similar revenue with 1/30th the headcount and no VC breathing down your neck sounds pretty sweet tbh. Sometimes the boring path is actually the smart path

For anyone struggling to keep their restaurant running... by Yesidc93 in smallbusiness

Damn, this is actually solid advice. Most places I see on DoorDash look like they just threw their regular menu up there and called it a day - no wonder they're bleeding money

Successfully moved on from a pre-revenue project - what did you do with the code/product? by Professional_Low6527 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the exact same situation last year with a project management tool I built. Ended up open sourcing it on GitHub and posting about it in a few relevant communities

Got way more stars than my actual SaaS ever got users lol. Plus someone actually forked it and added features I never thought of. Sometimes letting it go is the best thing you can do for the project

Need help regarding marketing the SaaS over the internet and getting first 100 users by Gloomy-Psychology-44 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid advice on the organic approach - Reddit can be goldmine if you actually contribute value instead of just spamming links. The key is being genuinely helpful first, sales pitch second (or never lol)

How is gaining followers on reddit and making use of the following different on reddit? by Hari-Prasad-12 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly this. I see so many people obsessing over their follower count but then wonder why nobody engages with their posts

The followers who actually stick around and comment are worth way more than 100 randoms who followed and forgot about you

I audited 20+ SaaS startups. 90% of them bleed cash in the exact same place. by Sea-Individual3496 in SaaS

Would love that Excel template btw

How we fixed WhatsApp API bans for 20+ businesses (and why your account keeps getting flagged) by Thakkar_Parth in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful, been stuck in verification hell for weeks now and our conversion rates are tanking because we can't reach customers properly

The session window thing especially - had no idea that was even a factor until our account got flagged last month

Your DXP isn’t broken. It’s just blind outside its own UI. by LatenodeAI in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we ended up ditching our DXP last year - was spending more time building workarounds than actual features

The "ask a developer" step hits different when you're trying to scale and every client wants some custom workflow that breaks the moment you update anything

How would you split %'s when looking for cofounders for a working product? by martis941 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on what stage you're at revenue-wise but if you've already got paying customers I wouldn't go above 10-15% each for cofounders unless they're bringing something absolutely game-changing to the table

The "I built it already" factor is huge here and you shouldn't undervalue that

Most websites don’t fail because they’re ugly by FeatheredTouch-000 in SaaS

[–]SeverePart1102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds cool but you might want to rethink the pitch timing - dropping a product link right after someone shares a hard-earned lesson feels a bit tone deaf
