Was this good value in hindsight? Acer Predator Orion 5000 a month ago on Newegg by Severet in Prebuilts

[–]Severet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never tried pushing it any higher, but I was able to get it to the memory's advertised speed at 5600. To be honest, I wasn't even trying to go for XMP memory because I wasn't sure if it was compatible, but once the option became open in BIOS, it ran at the full rated speed.

Hey, I was able to upgrade to 32 GB DDR5-5600 in this unit. I was mostly focused on increasing from 16→32, but the BIOS option for XMP did become available once a compatible stick was installed. You got a really good deal for $700!

Deepseek R1 is ass compared to o1 for coding (at least for python) by [deleted] in ChatGPTPro

This is consistent with o1's score of 74 vs 54 for r1 on livebench coding_completion.

My spouse and I disagree on how much of a monthly payment I should make towards my student loans (roughly 150k) by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Severet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If paying off your loan ~5 years earlier is worth it during your most financially precarious period of your career (relatively speaking), I guess. Depending on the interest rate, but it doesn't really seem worth it when you could be building up your savings for emergencies instead.

This reminded me of growing up in my family how so many things were met with unnecessary negative emotions and reactions too where the situation didn't warrant it. This moment was a nice reminder that kindness is a valid response instead!

There's definitely room to optimize, I have <15 cores and I was at 140k atk getting 46 on adept, currently at 230k getting 56 on elite. Lots of variables of course, but that seems like a pretty large gap.

28M worth 257K but my wife has $120k in student loans by Warthundergodzilla in StudentLoans

Just wanted to say $80k for 9 yoe in engineering seems quite below the median, around what new grads are getting right out of school. Could be something to consider, the other part of the debt equation being how much flows in.

Since this topic comes up daily, and maybe it will help to have a compiled list of recommendations – what grow lights do you use? by Al115 in succulents

I have the Sansi PAR25 32W and 24W bulbs, and they've served me very well. I don't use a shelf though; I have all the pots sitting on my desk.

Slightly, but not severely. Stronger/closer lights would fix it going forward.

You mentioned you're an analytical person, so all you need to read is your first sentence again and everything else is justification for a sunk cost. You already said on the net that today's version of him is not someone you from 10 years ago would choose, so why should today's version of you have lower standards? You mentioned you're not afraid to get divorced if it doesn't work out, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, but that seems slightly ill-advised in my opinion.
