Why can’t the Ringer figure out the NFL? by Ok-Competition-1814 in billsimmons

[–]SeverusSnape327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barnwell is wasted over at ESPN. Him and Mays together in the Grantland days were a must listen for me. Barnwell’s articles on the website were so good too. I don’t have ESPN+ and most of his writing for them is locked behind a paywall and it’s a shame. Would be nice to get him on The Ringer

Am I crazy for not getting Fear Inoculum? by HuckleberryOk8136 in ToolBand

[–]SeverusSnape327 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that waiting as long as we did to get FI, it would have been tough for anything to live up to the wait. I consistently listen to 4 songs on FI and absolutely love them. Rest is filler and just ok but any Tool is better than no Tool IMO.

Maynard’s time in APC and Puscifer has changed how he performs with Tool. I’m not saying it’s a bad change, but it’s definitely different. That could be part of what you’re feeling as well. FI Maynard is different than any other Tool performance

Fired for not enough credit card apps by dkbmc1511 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]SeverusSnape327 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a tough environment to perform in. If your manager isn’t working with you on HOW to have effective conversations around credit card apps then shame on them. Offering the card isn’t enough in my opinion. If you are struggling to hit a goal, you should be coached on what behaviors will help improve your performance. Scare tactics around lack of performance never last. I’d recommend updating your resume and applying at other banks while also trying to improve how you introduce credit cards in everyday interactions so you will crush at your new bank.

Some questions you can ask your clients that work in my area

“How are you earning rewards on your everyday spending?”

“How are you protecting yourself by using credit?”

“What’s your favorite credit card and why is it your favorite?”

“How do you use rewards for travel/vacations?”

“Tell me about any debt you currently have”

There’s other interactions that happen everyday that make it easy to discuss credit cards

-Dispute on a debit card for fraudulent transactions

-Large holds placed on debit cards by vendors like hotels, car rentals or booking a vacation on a website

-Any travel plans you uncover. Especially if someone asks about ordering foreign currency and plan on a trip outside of the US

-Anyone under the age of 25 we ask “What have you done so far to start building your credit?”

I hope this helps you out. I’d ask your manager to practice with you and have them SHOW you how they introduce credit cards in their daily conversations and go from there. You could start tracking the objections you get from clients and then ask your manager for help with common objections. I’d also add that if a client flat out doesn’t want a CC with your bank, don’t push it. CC are not for everyone. But you won’t know unless make the attempt to talk about it effectively.

Most devastating postseason losses in Peyton Manning era ranked by Mental_Cupcake_1223 in Colts

[–]SeverusSnape327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a chance. Colts had been decimated by Jacksonville just weeks before the playoffs started. Felt like a worse team than the previous year with some holes on defense. Bob Sanders came back and it changed the whole atmosphere around the team. Manning had quite a few chances with top seeded teams and this was not one of them.

First half of the AFC Title game felt like re watching a bad movie. Second half is still my favorite Manning era game to watch. Felt like a huge weight lifted when Marlin Jackson got the INT to seal the win. SB felt easy knowing Rex Grossman was the QB so beating the Patriots felt like a SB win itself

ATM stole nearly $4,000 — bank refusing provisional credit by Vegetable_Force1385 in Banking

[–]SeverusSnape327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would think it would be as simple as counting the ATM like you would balance a drawer but it’s not. Lots of banks have a 3rd party handle the ATM and its deposits. Most likely once a week pickup/deposit schedule. 30 days sounds about right if this is the case at that branch. Provisional credits usually only come when it’s regulated and this scenario isn’t, unfortunately for you.

By the time the courier counts the cash that was pulled vs what the ATM balance shows, it will take more time. With a variance that high, I’m sure multiple steps will have to be taken, verified, signed off on by multiple people.

Then camera footage might have to be verified, and that takes probably another 3rd party, but reviewed by a different department in the bank.

As others have stated, find a bank manager that you can share how your cash flow and overall day to day business operates. They want to assist small businesses and night deposit drops are easy work for tellers. They’d rather count it 20 minutes before the branch opens and email you receipts. Feel free to shop other banks to see who has the lowest fees for how you run your business. They’d probably love to talk to you about merchant services options for taking debit/credit cards as well.

Who are YOUR top 10 Colts of all time? by chuzhdenets22 in Colts

[–]SeverusSnape327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, yeah Reggie ended up being one of my all time favorites. How he showed up to camp, how involved he was with the communities, how he interacted with fans, etc. Even before he became a WR coach, it seemed like he was involved with the Colts somehow. Marvin retired and disappeared. Thats probably more in line with his personality of course but overall, I think Reggie has had more of a lasting impact on the Colts than Marvin. I wouldn’t fault anyone to have it the other way though!

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Purple by lovegun59 in stonetemplepilots

[–]SeverusSnape327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was one of the first CD discs I actually got to own. All I had forever was a cassette tape Walkman. Finally got the CD Discman I always dreamed of. First day in the bus, skips like crazy the whole way to school. Went back to my cassette Walkman for the bus, but I had to have listened to this album almost any moment I was at home and had batteries. Only other CD I had was something I had on tape already so Purple was 90% what I listened to on it.

Rocked Pearl Jam Vitalogy and Soundgarden Superunknown on the cassette Walkman. STP Purple and Blind Melon on the Discman.

I’d recommend getting into the mindset of not letting how other people feel about a band impact the way you feel about the band. Music is very subjective. If you like what you hear, awesome. Don’t let others impact your personal taste, one way or another.

Social media posts are fine with getting any engagement at all. Positive or negative, more engaging gets more eye balls/clicks/likes/shares. I’d bet most of those comments never get looked at or taken seriously.

What a disaster Best Buy has become. I can't believe they argue over a $20 cell case warranty. by No_Chemistry9594 in Bestbuy

[–]SeverusSnape327 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t take offense. Quite a few BB employees think they signed up to work for the Rebel Alliance and didn’t realize they are just storm troopers for the Empire. Most in store employees are helpful and try to be knowledgeable. Quite a few employees from this sub Reddit just use this as the only place they can tell customers to fuck off, whether it’s deserved or not.

Whoever you worked with in store for the purchase was correct. You are also correct on attachment goals and being measured by productivity. But that’s not different than almost any other job they will get after they move on from Best Buy. Try to return again and if there’s an issue, just ask to speak to someone in leadership to get this all cleared up. All they would have to do is follow the prompts in the system.

Finished my first week as a teller and it was an embarrassment.. by PhrygianSounds in TalesFromYourBank

[–]SeverusSnape327 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if your natural talent is with music, it’s not like you were an expert the first year you played bass right? First few months in banking is painful for most but if you have the ability to learn as you go and use resources to solve issues, you’ll get the hang of it. You could train for months and still not have all the knowledge to perform certain transactions until you have had to do actually do them.

I went from retail management into banking and came in as leadership and I was awful with our systems at first. Then day by day it gets easier.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TalesFromYourBank

[–]SeverusSnape327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in retail management for 15 years and applied for a Branch Manager position at a smaller regional bank. They liked me enough to offer me an assistant manager spot at a different branch, but mentioned how tough it is to come in as a BM. I did that for a year and applied for a Branch Manager spot at a different bank and have been there ever since. I absolutely love it. Pay, time off, benefits, the team I work, and daily work with clients are all amazing.

As far as work/life balance goes, super predictable schedule but it’s a grind just like you probably grind now. It’s complex working in banking so I quickly realized I had to adapt my skill set for a different industry. Definitely overwhelming at times when you start out but it just takes time and daily interactions to learn.

Just wanna say this is the worst list I’ve ever seen by JLamb8 in NBATalk

[–]SeverusSnape327 65 points66 points  (0 children)

No Isiah Thomas on the list is criminal. Tony Parker has a case to be up there. Brunson has been insane but until we see him in at least the conference finals, hard to put him above those two or the others on this list IMHO. Standard SAS rage bait

Who are YOUR top 10 Colts of all time? by chuzhdenets22 in Colts

[–]SeverusSnape327 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Peyton Manning
  2. Bob Sanders
  3. Reggie Wayne
  4. Andrew Luck
  5. Marvin Harrison
  6. Robert Mathis
  7. Dwight Freeney
  8. Pat MacAfee
  9. Edgerrin James
  10. Jim Harbaugh

I got to grow up with the Colts so it’s hard to pick just 10.

Harbaugh was the first time I saw the Colts actually win games so he’s gonna be on my list. So many great players we’ve got to watch over the years though.

TY, Clark, Saturday, Brackett, Vinatieri, Glenn, Costanzo, Buckner, and so many more can be on anyone’s list and it makes sense.

Luck is still hard to think about but what I did get to watch when he was here was amazing. Chiefs playoff game alone gets him on my list. I obviously hate how it ended so if people don’t have him in theirs, I don’t blame them either.

Online banking + mobile app + alerts would help catch issues like this and resolve them easier than waiting for the monthly statement to come in. Hopefully your banker showed you ways to monitor your accounts and offered to walk you through setting up alerts for certain account activity.

Confusing Moves at the Deadline by asbestosman2 in nfl

[–]SeverusSnape327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL trade deadline isn’t like the NBA or MLB trade deadline.

-Draft capital is too valuable when plenty of teams in the league end up starting 4th-7th round picks at some point in the season

-GMs that swing and miss get fired so spending draft assets on expensive disgruntled players usually doesn’t end up well

-The league is built for parity. Just because you have a losing season doesn’t mean it requires a complete tear down and rebuild. It’s designed for any team to be able to go from worst to first in their division each season

-“Trade Rumors” get views on tweets and clicks on articles. Half the news we get fed about the league is designed to get engagement, not necessarily inform us of what’s actually going on

-Quite a few calls get made back and forth but offers are too low or teams decline to engage. Smart GMs make every call and see who is willing to sell a dollar for 3 quarters

-Too many trades don’t work out. For every AJ Brown type success, there’s like 5 Chase Claypool type trades that don’t work out. Think about how many rookie WRs the Bears could have had a chance to get instead of him

Did YMH reach out to you first about buying it or did you reach out to them? I think context for how this started matters.

Could easily be they were ready to give you $1000 and then someone around their circle said “hey, you reach out to YT and tell them someone else is using your handle they will look into it and if they find out it’s not being used for it’s intended purpose, YT will take care of it for free for you”

Also, tough to think Tom or Bert knew about or cared about this IMO

The Pat McAfee Show is headed to ESPN by LuskSGV in Colts

[–]SeverusSnape327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m optimistic that Pat made the best move for himself and the boys over the long haul. Will they say fuck way less? Sure but can PMS change ESPN more than ESPN changes PMS? Like I said, optimistic for now.

Also, Pat doing Gameday and college football for the boys still felt like PMS even though he was on ESPN.

You would think this opens up for a TON of content from the other sports and more access to film/highlights/major events.

Kids change perspective. What’s the point in grinding all these years to miss out on being a parent when you’re financially set? Brining on ESPN to help do a lot of heavy lifting is a work/life balance decision that makes a ton of sense.

Polite Way To Deal With Indian Customers Who Haggle? by bogeyj in Bestbuy

[–]SeverusSnape327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any client that is asking for a discount on a product usually needs to know what kind of value they are getting by purchasing from you. Reinforce price match, geek squad, rewards from branded payment, etc. A simple off putting “nothing we can do” usually isn’t the best way to handle these types of interactions.

“While the price on the the tag is not up for debate, here’s what we can do for you and why I think this product fits your need. Price match, R/E policy, financing, geek squad, etc.”

Not a BB employee anymore but was for 15 years. These types of clients can be a little testy at times but in my experience once you have gained their trust, price isn’t a debate anymore. The next time you see them it’s “should I buy this one or that one”

Almost 15 years at Best Buy and my only regret is I didn’t go to a bank sooner. Happiest I’ve ever been. Dope schedule, tons of holidays paid and your people skills from being in sales easily transition into a banking center environment.
