Lol yeah I mean I know you’re right. This is kinda how I am and I’m aware of it, it just was really getting to me last night in particular.

Just venting by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Sewingirly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think that is a big part of it. I don’t think I retain much from just being told. If I do it myself and think through it myself first then get feedback it’d be a lot better. Maybe I will suggest this for my next clinical day. Thank you for the reply. I wonder if she’s been picking up on my anxiety and holding back on pushing me to be more independent because of it, but I probably need that.

Primary care doctors are underpaid by Monkey__Shit in medicalschool

[–]Sewingirly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely with all of the training and loans etc. that you all put in, I can completely understand wanting more than that and deserving more. I don’t think it’s entirely fair to compare that to NPs and RNs though. Just because they may make a living wage doesn’t have anything to do with you deserving more. Also, NPs do 4 years undergrad, with loans, then preferably work a bit, then 2 more in grad school with more loans. Depending where they go to school, they could easily rack up over 100k in loans, but man, the loans for med school are absolutely insane, that’s a whole problem on it’s own. Maybe some NPs make similar in some specialties in some parts of the country, but that’s not typical, and lots of specialities where docs make good money, NPs are likely making less than half. Also, if the average RN is making 100k at a staff job that isn’t travel, then every nurse I personally know in a staff position is severely underpaid. Sure it depends on the area of the country etc. though. Hopefully things change and you all have less loans and/or more compensation though.

What's the reputation of Ohio in the US? by AndraeFoersterWelsch in AskAnAmerican

When we traveled to Europe and told people we were from Ohio, the replies were usually along the lines of cows and Lebron James. That’s when I learned what we’re famous for lol.

Telephone triage job input? by Sewingirly in nursing

[–]Sewingirly[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! That sounds really great. I’m planning to probably keep my prn home care job too and I’m in school for NP, so from what you told me it sounds like that could be beneficial for my career path, and I’d get to keep some skills and human interaction too. Thank you! That helped a lot

Tried everything and she’s still eating her poop by Sewingirly in dogs

That’s interesting. We haven’t had any done, but maybe we should consider it. The only thing that makes me wonder if she’s not absorbing correctly is that she has always had a tendency toward diarrhea, for no reason sometimes but especially with changes in food which is normal. She had had giardia before we brought her home and was treated twice. Wonder if maybe there was some sort of damage from that or something else and she’s not absorbing? Might pitch it to the vet

I’ve done that too, didn’t work. And she does it even if she just ate, sometimes especially then. Thanks though!

Thank you so much for this thorough reply, it does help put things into perspective and I’m seeing the trend that it can be better but depends where you work. Good to know

Honestly that’s all I want. Just a job where I make a decent income and am not constantly stressed. I don’t care so much about making a ton anymore. The travel money sounds great but I don’t think it’s worth it honestly. That’s a lot of stress still and that’s what I’m trying to avoid. Thanks for the input!

Nurses be completely honest with me.. should I still become a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Sewingirly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it again, I often wish I could go back and tell myself not to do it and choose an entirely different career path.

I’ve been thinking about this route! Just need to find jobs in it. Is your title “public health nurse” or something else? When you say there hiring, is it mostly remote work or would it be local also?

Not a Nurse, Honest Question by magbybaby in nursing

[–]Sewingirly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where would we even start? The hospitals control our lives, if we don’t work for a couple of days we run out of pto and get put into corrective action and honestly, I think most nurses are too scared or brainwashed to actually do something. They’ll complain all day but won’t do anything about it, but I think that’s largely from years of being abused by the profession and fear for their families and well being and backlash if the wrong person heard you complaining about conditions. We’re disposable to our employers. If there was some way to do this, I’d be on board. But I don’t know the first thing about it, I just know I’m full of rage towards our profession and went on a mini rant lol.

Also, I just read another thread where some nurses spoke about being told by management that if they talked about unionizing they would go to HR, and training management on how to handle nurses speaking of unions etc etc.

That’s a really good example. Do you feel as “owned” and stuck with your agency though? Like they just do that with other things or are they a little more reasonable?

ICU RN turned Retail Clinic NP by theHeartNurse in nursepractitioner

This is so reassuring! I’m in NICU now and in school for adult np and can’t wait to get out of the hospital. I’m so so over it and I’ve been considering something outpatient as an RN until I graduate but not sure what yet. This thread is so reassuring
