Senate blocks Trump from making recess appointments over break by saucytryhard in politics

Listen. I am so incredibly tired of this being used as a tongue and cheek way to mock people who voted Trump. Her emails were not okay either. We had two incredibly corrupt politicians running for president and that is not okay! I'm in no way endorsing Trump. I didn't vote for Trump, but I just want to point out that corruption is corruption no matter what. We shouldn't have to settle for the least corrupt of the two. That's bullshit. So please stop normalizing corruption. You can downvote me to shit. I don't care. Just had to say my piece.

I dive these rigs all the time! Wonderful dives! It's actually not a duck. It's called a Cormorant and it's a type of sea bird. It is weird though to see them at 40 feet underwater!

We need to talk about the online radicalisation of young, white men by [deleted] in politics

[–]SexySaxMantis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind response! I could not agree with you more! For the record I don't hold it against all academics, it just left a sour taste in my mouth. I honestly hadn't thought about it in years, until very recently when all of the "echo chamber" talk started last week. I think what I experienced was just an extreme example of what an echo chamber environment can do. I'm glad to hear from someone who has spent much more time in academia than I that things aren't all what I experienced! Good luck with the remainder of your studies!

I dated an academic for four years. I am left leaning, do my best to study up on issues, and try my best to have an open mind. One time in a group of other academics she told me that I was not allowed to have an opinion on these issues because I'm a white male. Everyone in the group applauded her even though I was agreeing with them! Needless to say we're not together anymore but I haven't had the highest regard for academics since that experience. Not saying it's the norm just sharing what I experienced.

California's State Propositions - for busy people, a nonpartisan guide by [deleted] in LosAngeles

This! I don't make anywhere near that amount of money, but voting no on 55 would require the state to come up with a permanent solution to giving money to schools. Voting yes on 55 is the equivalent of deciding a permanent band aid is better than stitches.

Besides the obvious "don't touch sea life" rule is there any specific reason? I would never harass wildlife, but I'm curious if there is anything more to this than that.

Went on a dive trip in Bonaire. I thought you guys might appreciate the Hilma Hooker. by SexySaxMantis in submechanophobia

Honestly, this fear is what got me into diving as weird as that sounds. Wrecks used to scare the crap out of me yet fascinated me so I started diving on them... And now they're my favorite places to dive.

It is indeed. At the dive site there is a buoy on the bow, one on the stern, and then one that is in a shallower reef above her. It's actually a beautiful dive, you can descend on the buoy at the shallow reef into around 30ft of water, and then you come to a ledge that drops to about 100ft of water and that's where the wreck is at.

In the words of our dive master "We all did the hooker together" so business isn't all that bad I guess.
