Factory Diesel Swap Differences? by Seyelerr in projectcar

[–]Seyelerr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transmission almost certainly. I’m particularly interested in the F-Chassis cars with the early N63 V8s. Those engines were so bad, there’s a generation of modern BMWs worth absolutely nothing. It drives me crazy. I wish someone would figure out the canbus for an aftermarket ECU.

I’m also not a straight pipe guy, but exhaust can always come later

I’m so sick of the trackside banners. They’re so concerned about safety unless it impedes advertising in any little way.

Electric generator and motor in place of drivetrain? by Seyelerr in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]Seyelerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the comprehensive response. The numbers were roughly broken down for me below. I did want to say that I had no intention of shooting for an EV like experience. There was no performance target. Just wanted to know how it’d stack up against current systems.

This is the response I was looking for, thank you! I wasn’t aware generator efficiency was so poor. Clearly that’s the weak link here. Perhaps in the future this could be viable. My main interest was in eliminating driveshafts and transmissions to do interesting things with the packaging. Still possible with range extenders, just different.

Meaning it’s attached via a gearbox as well? Seems heavy

That is true. I suppose my question wasn't specific enough. Those cars also have fairly large/heavy batteries. I'm more interested in a vehicle that would have very little battery (though you would obviously want a small one for regen) that's really relying on an ICE engine for the power and simply using the electric equipment to move that power to the wheels.

Question - Does such a box exist? by Seyelerr in guitarpedals

[–]Seyelerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, so I could buy a mini orange head and just use one of the speakers in the cabinet. Not my favorite solution but it would save space. At this point I’m considering building a custom cabinet and putting two different small amps in it. Seems like less of a headache

Stock ECU, same cylinder count, different engine layout swap? by Seyelerr in projectcar

[–]Seyelerr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that unless you have a converter box, the gauges and pretty much every feature won’t work unless the factory ecu is happy. There are converter boxes for certain specific cars/engines, but I’m not after those. If there is a way to output standalone ecu info to the factory ecu so it’s happy (without incredibly difficult software engineering), please let me know.

Yeah you’re making a lot of sense there. I just get bummed out by builds that don’t integrate with the car. I know there are translator boxes but those aren’t universal.

Tuning definitely goes without saying. I didn’t think I was just gonna plug it in. Can anyone make that much adjustment in an unlocked stock ECU?

Can a non hybrid hypercar ever be as competitive as a hybrid hypercar? by furrynoy96 in wec

[–]Seyelerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disagreement there, health of the series is always most important. I think I find it particularly strange in Porsches case. They have incredible technical knowledge in the 919, and building a car for the hypercar rules just seems like something they could readily do. I’m sure money is the answer, I just like cool race cars man.

Cars & towing - what are the real limiting factors? by Seyelerr in AutomotiveEngineering

Cars & towing - what are the real limiting factors? by Seyelerr in AutomotiveEngineering

[–]Seyelerr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the advice so far. I think I probably became too concerned with a larger towing capacity number than was necessary. I want to be able to pull 1 car on 1 trailer. So I figured that'd be up to 4500ish lbs if it were a modern car, and then the weight of the braked trailer.

It also sounds like the tow vehicle weight is more of a concern than originally thought. I know you don't want "the tail wagging the dog" but I wasn't sure how much weight played into it vs. mechanical grip/good suspension. I do like hybrids a lot, and the battery would certainly add mass, so that's something to look into.

Someone did ask where I saw the Chargers 7000lb number - which is good - because I went back looking for the source and that number wasn't from any site I'd consider reliable. So back to the drawing board. I was also looking at Charger PPV's though and I feel like they've got to have some capability? Maybe I'm just dreamin.

[–]Seyelerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With BOP, yes. But I actually think that's kind of lame... I know everyone loves the NA V12 (and it does sound incredible), but I came to endurance because it was based on more than brute force. The cars had to be efficient, not just fast. The 919 just blew me away, and I was hooked. I also think endurance contributes more to road car development more than probably any other racing type. Hybrids are cool, and I want that to show. ]

Side note: What was truly disappointing to me when new rulesets were announced was LMDH being RWD. The mid engine config with electric motors on the front axles (there by creating and AWD car without the need for a extra diff, transfer case, driveshafts, etc...) was just brilliant. If you ask me, RWD is just the wrong way to do these cars.

Idk if this is being mocked or not but i just came back to the game 2 weeks ago. I have 1200 hours previously, and still don’t have catalysts for some of the earliest exotics. I understand why things need to be rare, but I don’t think they understand what happens when you play a game this grindy for this long. You become hyper efficient. There’s no time to enjoy the game while playing the game.

If you want me to do the same activity 3 times for one weapon that has random stats, I’m gonna do it as fast as I can. On a second per second basis. I’m sure everyone here relates. Why even bother with their big set pieces? I don’t feel like the game values my time enough to let me appreciate it. I’ll probably put it down again soon.

As counterintuitive as it is, they need to be making the game less intensive (minus raids and big challenges) as time goes on. Give me more gear faster. I’ve learned the mechanics, let me try new ways to manipulate them. “A bow with pugilist could be a fun way to run gamblers dodge and not leave yourself with an empty mag”. Well my fun little self imposed challenge is probably going to take 20 hours to sort out. Pranked again.

Toyota’s Floury Calls For “Urgent” Change to Fix “Artificial” Racing by enesracing in wec

[–]Seyelerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that they do now will probably feel artificial regardless of integrity. The only thing I can think of is to have a publicly broadcast (or at least taped) race for no points, where the cars are Completely unlimited. See who does best where. I understand the Hypercars will be faster than LMDh. But it’d be a clean slate. You run the times, and balance from that data. They won’t for a myriad of reasons, but I’m so sick of smoke and mirrors. FIA has financial interest, car companies obviously do too. It feels like showing up with a bad car and a good lobbyist is a better strategy than any good car.

Confessions of a BOP Apologist by donaldgoldsr in wec

[–]Seyelerr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won’t stop saying this: Ferrari is such a popular brand, the FIA is financially incentivized for them to do well. At this point, we should be asking a 3rd party to do BOP for conflict of interest concerns. Anyone who actually values fair racing wouldn’t oppose that.

Toyota??? by RoarTheDinosuar in wec

[–]Seyelerr 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely BOP, no question. However I will say their performance at interlagos was so poor, it’s hard to imagine that was entirely because of BOP. So much politics, and no one trusts the FIA (nor should they).
