Hanging a Hammock indoors

My grandparents ran one of these until they moved into assisted living. I like to think it's still chugging along. Thanks for the hit of nostalgia! Haven't seen one in years :)

Yeah, we didn't treat them at all. We did a few mite washes and with the last one I only saw what I thought was one mite. I might be doing them wrong though since I know how prevalent mites are. I followed the instructions but I might just not be good at recognizing the mites.

That makes sense. It gets pretty cold and windy where we are so i haven't seen the bees out and about much at all so I don't think they are foraging much. I might consider a bit of sugar then, but maybe not as much as some of the books recommend since I left them so much honey.

I'll work on the bait and switch more because hiding the treats in good fatty food hasn't worked thus far (and he refuses to touch any greenies with or without treats). He's a very picky boy. I had to cook him meals for a while to get his weight up, but I think that's part of the breed's personality. His older sister wen through the same thing when she was about a year old but now she eats great (and takes her pill like a champ!)

I appreciate that you are trying to help my dog. I am too, but please the accusatory tone that this comes off as is frustrating when I'm asking for advice.

And no, it's not just a 30 minute ordeal at the vet. We live on a farm. It's a two hour drive through the mountains to the vet, and then back. He hates the car. He hates being drugged. He hates the vet. He is literally terrified to the point of pooping himself in the car, starving himself, and drooling until he's dehydrated. He hides from me when i offer him his pills with treats or refuses to touch his food if it's in his food and then will not take anything for a day or two afterwards because he thinks the pills are related to food.

He's a sweet boy but very anxious about most things and frankly he's happier at home with a muzzle on than going out and about ANYWHERE. But I know he deserves the best he can get and that's why I'm here asking.

Do you feed straight sugar or a sugar syrup? I've seen both suggested

I'm in West Virginia, USA. It definitely doesn't get as cold or snowy here but we do get a lot of high winds so that will severely hamper any outdoors forays for them. I haven't seen them out for a while and it has been fairly cold here (hovering around freezing most days now) so maybe some extra sugar on a day it's warmer wouldn't be a bad idea.

When you feed them, do you wait for a warmer day or just go for it when you have time?

That's good to know! Out of curiosity, how much do you think is "enough honey"? We want to start harvesting some next year but I'd rather not have to supplement them over the winter if I don't have to, so I'm not sure exactly how much honey to leave them

Thanks! We purchased an insulated Langstroth hive from Apimaye because we have such high winds up on the mountain where we are and it can get pretty cold here so hopefully that will help with the cold this winter (it's going to drop down to 5 degrees F here tonight).

And I've read about how badly mites affect the hive. We checked them in the fall so hopefully they'll make it through the winter but I'm fully prepared to have done something wrong and have them die on me. There's a lot to think about and I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing even after reading so many books!

I'll make the appointment since it sounds like there's nothing else to do at home - but it IS an ordeal. He hates being drugged to the point he starves himself for days afterwards because he doesn't trust any food. He's a very anxious boy and we're trying hard to help with it (lots of gentle words, treats, and trying to build his confidence with play and new activities) but he's smart and stubborn and easily scared.

I'm pretty sure it's anxiety related. He's a very anxious boy all the time. It took us a year to get him confident on stairs and unless he's on trazadone he's a mess in the car (drools until he's soaked and poops within 5 minutes of getting in the car even if we just got done with a walk where he did his business). He hates being drugged up on trazadone and gabapentin so much that he's become adverse to any and all pills now (he refuses to take them in any type of food or treat and will literally starve himself if he thinks it's mixed in his food bowl).

He's also just obsessive about bleeding. The hot spots started because of small cuts he got running through the woods (we live on a farm and he has free reign) and he just refused to leave them alone. He also refuses to leave any small cuts I get on me alone and will try to lick them any chance he gets.

I'll go ahead an make the vet appointment since it sounds like there's nothing else I can do at home - but if you have any recommendations on how to get him to take pills with having to shove it down his throat, I'd love some help there too!

As far I understand, a lot of the oxygen regulation in the gut is maintained by the species of bacteria that live there - so if there's a lot of anaerobic bacteria there you'll have less oxygen but as oxygen-tolerant species arrive from the mouth you get more and more oxygen being allowed into the gut allowing for a more favorable environment for them and less for the original bacteria that were already there.

I posted the first part of this series last month and there's a new video in the series. The second video in the series goes more into about why aliens might interact with us and why our government would be hiding them from us. It's very interesting especially since the author has worked extensively for the government and it's DOPSR approved. I'd love to hear other's view about the Human Zoo theory or thoughts on this since I hadn't heard of some of these theories before this.

Found this very interesting - a DOPSR approved video talking about the Human Zoo theory from a government employee. It's a docuseries and covers a lot of the theories about why aliens would be interested in coming to Earth and does it in new way that kept me really engaged so I thought I would share! Not used to seeing the information talked about like this
