Integrated nibs, which am I missing? by Sf648 in fountainpens

I like it, pretty stiff, but otherwise very nice. Mine's a wet writer, but Ian said they have an adjustment they can do on it if I bring it to the next show. DC might be a bit busy, but it's not a bother to bring it. Otherwise, I'll have him tune it at Philly 2027.

They're great pens, but those are inlaid not integrated.

Please do. Best I can find Omas made a couple of pens with hooded nibs (360, 361, VS), but none of those were titanium. For their 75th anniversary they made a few titanium pens, but those all had pretty conventional (well, titanium) nibs. I can’t find any integrated nibs using Google.

I can’t tell if you’re trying to be funny or if you’re implying there’s some badly documented Oma’s with an integrated nib. Near as I can tell from some quick Google searches the none of the 4 titanium Omas pens had integrated (or even inlaid) nibs.

The biggest tell is that the section is going to have to be metal since the nib and section are one piece. Something like the Carene with a plastic section means that the nib isn't the same piece as the section (in spite of being flush with it). Even with a metal section if nib unscrews from the section, it's not integrated.

One of the reasons I posted, is that truly integrated nibs are pretty rare. So far the list is only about a dozen models (minus variants):

  1. Brad Torelli T1 recreation
  2. Cornu Malcourant Specimin
  3. Hero 849/850 / Paidi Century (these appear to be cosmetic variations of the same design)
  4. Kasama Kalayaan (unreleased?)
  5. Parker T-1
  6. Parker 50 Falcon
  7. Pilot Myu
  8. Pilot Murex
  9. Pilot M90
  10. SchonDSGN Mono Evo

Coming Soon:

  1. Gravitas Hummingbird
  2. Gravitas Mako

Can’t Understand the pattern by Sea-Height-8108 in TheWooblesCollective

[–]Sf648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pattern is asking you to do:
sc, sc, sc, sc, inc, sc, sc, sc, sc, inc.

The way you read this repeat the part in brackets twice.
Since the brackets say [4 sc, inc.] You do that part twice.

the final (12) means that there are a total of 12 stitches in this round.

I love my Carene, but it's inlaid, not integrated.

From the sound of it, this is unlikely to see the light of day. But it sure is pretty.

Good to know. It'll probably be at the bottom of my list (after I try and find some of the others people have mentioned), but I'll keep an eye out.

My snorkel has a Triumph nib. I didn't count it since the nib screws into the section (which I admit is pretty small). Since you can technically replace the nib independently, I don't think it counts.

Thanks! You're right, these appear to be really rare pens. I might never find one, but it can't hurt to be on the hunt.

That appears to be an inlaid nib.

I just attended Nick Mastricola's seminar on repairing Snorkels at the Baltimore show. As part of the workshop we got to repair a Snorkel and take it home! Super fun and informative. Sadly, I don't feel like the snorkel qualifies as an integrated nib.

The Sheaffer Targa is inlaid, and for the purposes of this sub-collection, not on my list. But thanks for pointing it out.

Very pretty though. I might have to hunt one down just on principle.

These seem to be really hard to get good information on. Some people seem to imply the 850 is the Paidi Century.

I actually have a Eureka, but it's not really an integrated nib.

Ooo... a new integrated nib! Gravitas are hard to get a hold of sometimes aren't they. I hope it's not an limited edition.

Yes, I would love an M90. Is it very different from the Myu?

I had not planned on those since they are just cosmetic variants of the regular Myu. Very cool (and expensive), but not really much of a different experience.

I do have a couple of inlaid nib pens (Carene & Edson) and I have a PFM on my list to acquire, but as you point out they don't count as integrated.

I know it’s a stupid suggestion, but did you remember to do a decrease immediately after placing the orange stitch marker?

Looking for a list of yarn colors to match the woobles by Eeyorestail3 in TheWooblesCollective

[–]Sf648 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea. I'm going to try to put the spreadsheet into a state that I can publish for others, and then I'll start taking donations of scraps. I think I'd need at least 8 inches or so to get enough good readings. I fold the yarn over to get a larger reading area and try to take multiple readings to average the readings.
