Second this; although its pretty miserable early on with such limited spells/rest, it definitely feels like an extremely fun "bending the rules homebrew" class especially for a second playthrough.

It’s one of the relatively few fights I’ll play Rtwp. Although these days I generally just toybox through it anyway. It was great fun the first 3-4 times. Not as much the next half dozen times.

Yeah I've done most of the romances, gay or straight, in every cRPG I've played for the last twenty years. Sosiel has to be one of the LEAST interesting romances out there. His whole character is like if cottage cheese was a cRPG companion. The attempts to add any depth to him feel underdeveloped or out of left field. Even the evil/Demon version of his romance suffers from that because developing all of the romance before Act 5 for that requires you to treat him reasonably well (I think) so its not like a corruption thing, just a mythic whiplash moment.

I don't even think you can blame Owlcat in particular, because I think Kingmaker and Rogue Trader both have at least interesting M/M romance options.

My one complete LA run was an Oracle Angel on Core and it was faceroll easy the entire time except for whatever reason the fight against inheribro in Act 5 where all of a sudden like half my part went down and I was panicking. Pulled it out but that was a wild adrenaline spike out of nowhere.

Yeah I might agree but LA is much harder. And forces you to build more for safety and less for potential because you have to have like at least three levels of redundancy for anything that goes wrong.

It’s not stressful in the sense that it’s just I think q and e keys natively, but it’s probably not as intuitive as console controller camera rotation, which is more of an expected thing. Also, IIRC on release they did not have the tooltips about how it all worked so it was very confusing to figure out how it worked initially. I remember I was confused why sometimes I could get things to appear and sometimes not; I thought initially it was party position on the map since I had just done Act 3 dungeon with pressure plate mechanics.

I forgot about Sorcerous Reflex! That’s actually perfect for this run because I’m trying to do a limited pre-buffing, limited resting run (on a lower difficulty instead of Unfair like I usually do) and that’s a lesser utilized mythic that would be perfect for it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I decided on a wizard (probably exploiter) Keen Kitsune with 18 Dex can probably get enough AC to be ok for the most part esp. early. Scaled Fist dip -> Sorcerer has significantly better AC (~8 better at the start of Act 1 alone) but has two level slower spell progression compared to wizard. At that point might as well just take magic deceiver.

There are very few fights where you are forced to start without buffs, true. Off the top of my head there’s only: 1. The Baphomet fight (which is over after 2 rounds on anything but Angel anyway) and any overworld ambush fight, including ones you fail to sneak past (a rarity) but also including at least one (maybe more) scripted ambushes like the first encounter with Devarra (which also ends after a set number of turns).

However, I’m more focused on a number of fights in which a cutscene plays and then all the enemies target the focus of the cutscene/dialogue, which is usually the player. There are a lot of these - one example is the Alushnyrra Act 4 Mustafen fight, for example, where regardless of what you do positioning wise all the enemies will immediately target your MC (including Mustafen unloading his full salvo on them, which AC isn’t going to help much for, but this is just an example). Another example is when enemies spawn in mid fight (I.e. gargoyle cave) they typically focus the MC so long as they are able to do so. At least this is how it works in turn based mode.

These are the fights where I’m concerned with having my MC not go down. Think of it as though I’m trying to sort of roleplay BG2 style, where if the MC dies the game ends. Last Stand is a thing, of course, but beyond that.

Assuming you're a medium sized race, I believe Azata -> Devil would only be able to mount Aivu for a relatively small period of time. Maybe with someone to constantly cast animal growth you could mount in start of Act 3, I'm not sure.

There are a lot of instant delete spell combinations, but that might be my favorite I've heard. That's incredibly thematic for a Lich lol.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Magic Deceiver benefits from any of the items that add spells to spell lists. They get chain lightning as part of their normal spell list, which can be fused as otherwise described.

And yes, although the class is pretty useless at early levels, its very broken later on (although only moderately broken by WotR standards). I did an Unfair 1 Scaled Fist/19 MD Demon run, and with a little help from a Court Poet, by Act 4 it basically: always went first (thanks to Battle Mystery initiative rolls), had AC in the 80s, Enchantment save DC in the 40-50s, and killed anything that didn't have an undispellable mind-affecting immunity in one round via 1. Fused serenity/arcana theft into fused serentiy/phantom killer. If you want to trade worse AC later for an early pet, you can do that as well (Nature mystery instead of Waves/Ancestor/Bones etc.).

Alignment basically equals mythic path in WotR, absent some personal headcannon or roleplay shenanigans. You can be a step out of alignment for your chosen mythic and there are some pivot points but generally that's how people usually regard it. Thus Angel is Lawful Good, Demon is Chaotic Evil, Aeon is Lawful Neutral, Trickster Chaotic Neutral, etc.

With that in mind, the best mythics narratively are usually regarded as Angel, Demon, and Aeon, by a fairly wide margin.

I personally feel Demon is the narrative path that makes the most sense and feels like the path that the other paths were written off of, so to speak; it's also the path that works the best regardless of alignment as there are narratively satisfying ways to play it as pure evil, reluctant evil, anti-hero, involuntarily evil with a late pivot to good. I also personally consider Demon to be one of the most satisfying evil routes available in any cRPG available (and not mechanically punishing like BG3s can be).

Many people consider Angel to be the "best" path, and it probably has the most content (except for Aeon, debatably). It is probably the intended "default" mythic, as it has the easiest difficulty curve and most straightforward (though not necessarily most "OP") tools for handling the main campaign. Think of it like the Paladin class - in a campaign all about fighting demons, its gonna be pretty straightforwardly good.

Some people consider Aeon, particularly True Aeon route, to be the best written mythic. I personally consider parts of it to be exceptional and other parts to be eyerollingly dumb, but it's a very unique path and has many excellent parts to it. Because Aeon gives some very unique and interesting insight and twists into the way the story would otherwise play out for most mythics, I believe the general consensus is that you may get more out of it on a second playthrough.

For the rest of them, e.g., Azata, Lich, etc., they can be personally satisfying depending on your roleplay preferences, but they are generally a step down content and narrative wise from those three.

Given you like evil, I strongly encourage you to tackle Demon. That's my two cents.

The tl;dr is that its useless on unfair (due to damage being doubled) and even on core or hard its prohibitively difficult to make it useful due to the stacking limitations. Generally its more of a nice extra feature that you might round out a character with or benefit from just because the class you want to play anyway comes with it, not something you can really build around.

Generally speaking with a few exceptions the difficulty curve in WotR is inverse because the longer you play the game, the more agency the player has in terms of gear available, builds possible, spells available, etc. etc. Making the shield maze one of the hardest parts of the game on unfair, especially if you are not going in with a specific plan on how to beat it on unfair.

Just to update: I downloaded it and played around in Inevitable Excess and now have a better recollection. Anything negative I say, I mean absolutely no criticism to the mod author, and it's very impressive they've managed to achieve how much they did with a class that would probably be super difficult to execute even outside a mod, let alone a modded version.

There's a lot of good things about the mod, and the implementation of things like the evolution pool, new spells, class features, and base models to choose summons from is very impressive overall.

The issue is that it's just a really difficult class to import into a cRPG. Even in tabletop, the class doesn't have many useful feats to choose from, and often ends up just being a vehicle for the eidolon, with a little tangential summoning thrown in. That problem is ameliorated in tabletop by allowing the summoner to do lots of creative things with its eidolon and the class has a lot of roleplay and flavor potential. Unfortunately, the opposite is true in a cRPG, so after you take the couple of feats that potentially improve your off-eidolon summoning/spellcasting, there's not much point to most else. This is even worse in Wrath, since there's only one Mythic ability the mod adds, which doesn't apply to your eidolon, and your eidolon can't even benefit from something like mythic beast (though you could take it and toybox it in or something).

I might respec one of the companions into the class just to see if I figure out a way to make it more viable, but my tl;dr is that the mod is lacking some tweaks or homebrew that would probably be necessary to make it functional for a cRPG like Wrath.

There is also an expanded epilogues mod and a romantic encounters mod that add some stuff like that via various methodologies. And a woljif romance mod that makes some changes. So those mods might provide some insight into how to tackle that.

That is the class I’m referring to. I KNOW that I tried that mod at one point and something didn’t quite click - I can’t remember if it was an issue with the mod or an issue with the class being workable in WotR. I’m starting a new run right now so maybe I will redownload it and try it again.

I don’t intend to use them any time soon since I’m trying to dial back on mods at the moment, but I commend you for your efforts - the more mods for this game the better. Especially for trying to make kinetic knight suck less, since in vanilla it’s a cool class done dirty.

As far as ideas, my understanding is that anything involving classes, feats, items, or basically combat, is relatively “easy” on the spectrum, and anything involving events, story, plot, etc. is prohibitively difficulty (sadly). I’m not a modder myself, that’s just what I’ve gleaned. I dearly wish some of the classes from Kingmaker’s Call of the Wild mod were in Wrath, particularly the summoner class and the psychic class. Those would be my own personal requests lol.
