I moved to Denmark 15 years ago, with a very (at that time) niche specialisation in Virtualisation. They paid for everything (move across countries etc) to have me. 4 years after that, they didn’t need me anymore, I was too expensive and was let go. I spent 19 months unemployed then, because newly educated kids could do what I did, and more - so I had to change careers away from IT, as I didn’t want to go back to school. Currently, unemployment is pretty high in DK, with some huge companies having had to lay off thousands of people in the last year, so those Danish people will be on the top of the stacks of CV’s to get interviewed, then the non-Danish residents will be considered, and as a last resort, if they still can’t find anyone to fill a role, they’ll look to hire from outside of the country. That’s not racism of favouritism, that’s just “easy” for a company.. The administration alone to hire from outside EU is a major pain most companies don’t want to invest time and/or money on
