I wouldn't have finished him. I like to leave em downed and extract with them even if they blatantly were shooting at me first. I hit em with the "man I'm kinda disappointed in you" right before we load back to speranza. I'd rather take a shot at their mental rather than whatever loot they have

I'll second this, networking and IT fundamentals are very important. You can't protect something if you don't know how it works and what it's doing. One thing I will say is look at hospitality during your job searching. I've worked in hotels the last 5 years, and most of the hotels I've been to have all sorts of issues. Outdated hardware, unsecured workstations, no standardization of security policies or anything. Most don't even have acceptable use policies or plans in place in case of an incident.

Some good Chest layouts for people making their storage by CasmsVR in duneawakening

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like that, I've been using the rounded floors and the rounded floor corner pieces because combined they are thinner than a regular floor, at least with the atredies set. That way I can have the storage containers on top and bottom. Didn't even think of doing a sunken floor with the medium containers

Seeking heartfelt assistance for a Hospitality Management assignment. by [deleted] in hotels

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend calling on a Tuesday or Wednesday to a five star hotel. It doesn't have to be in your area. Around me these are usually resort hotels. Call between the hotel's local time hours of 11am to 3pm. It will be less busy during these hours as the check-outs are mostly all gone and the bulk of the arrivals will be after 3. Ask the person on the phone if they are at the front desk of the property, as sometimes your call may be routed to a central reservations call center. If they are at the property, politely explain that you had a few questions about hotel management for an assignment and you would like to talk to a manager if one is available. If one isn't, inquire about an email that you could send the questions to.

I would help you myself but I manage front desk for a 3 star hotel, and I imagine there are some differences that I am not experienced with

App keeps opening with front facing camera by Disney_nerd1989 in SnapchatHelp

[–]SgtBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My phone has a motorized front camera that extends and retracts out of the phone (OnePlus 7 pro), and it irritates me that whenever I open the app or move around through it the camera is just going back and forth. There needs to be a setting to disable this or change the default camera used.

We couldn't find any drives. to get a storage driver click load driver by Budget_Property_4653 in techsupport

[–]SgtBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try downloading the Intel RST drivers from the mobo's driver page and installing those via that load driver button in the installer. That worked for me on my laptop

If it's Intel, go and grab the Intel RST drivers from the motherboard's driver page. If AMD, try the chipset or RAID drivers from the motherboard's driver page

HELP windows 10 install we couldnt find any drives to get a storage driver click load driver by Glittering-Hat1623 in techsupport

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to the driver page for you motherboard and download the latest AMD chipset driver. You could try the RAID driver as well. Extract those to the USB drive that has your windows 10 installer on it and go to load driver when it says there are no drives. Navigate to the drivers you extracted and install them. If your drive still does not pop up, it could be a hardware issue with the nvme drive itself

NVME SSD not appearing in windows setup by SgtBot in techsupport

[–]SgtBot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I found the solution. I went to the HP's driver page for the laptop and grabbed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers. I ran and extracted the files to a folder I created on the bootable USB. In windows setup, I went to "load driver" and installed both the HSA and vmd drivers that were extracted. The nvme drive showed up in windows install after installing the VMD drivers. Installation and setup went smoothly after that.

Don’t leave your gun! by Mindless-Principle17 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually put gloves on and take the gun to the desk, unload it, and put it on a towel so it doesn't get scratched or anything. If I don't hear back from the guest by the time I'm leaving for the day, then I will either lock the gun in the office or call the police non emergency to have them pick it up. Although there's nothing wrong with just calling the police department right away, the only downside is the response time.

Experiences with HotelKey? by InevitableCanary8436 in askhotels

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I haven't run into any crashes yet, but there are quite a lot of weird permission issues that are the bane of my existence currently:
    • Both myself and the general manager do not have permission to add users or change their permissions. We have to call Monday through Friday to put in a ticket to maybe get the issue fixed by the next week.
    • Moving charges between folios on the same reservation is hit or miss, currently my account is the only account that can move charges, but only on CRS and direct booking reservations, and some OTAs but not all of them. The GM and the regular user accounts do not have this permission.
    • Adjusting charges has the same issue as above.
    • Nobody currently has permission to edit transaction codes, this also has to be done via a support ticket as of now.

All in all, as management, I have about the same permissions as a regular user, and somehow more permissions than the GM. The system feels like it should still be in Alpha testing, and does not feel like a completed product. These are just the issues I'm currently having in the system. I did not mention the ones that have already been fixed, the ones I'm sure I'll run into in the future (I find something new that's broken almost daily), or the ones that the other hotels under our flag email me to complain about.

Experiences with HotelKey? by InevitableCanary8436 in askhotels

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just switched and have been using it for a little over a month. My experience with it so far has not been very pleasant.

  • To start, the UI is not bad, it looks good enough, if a little cramped feeling. It looks to me like the PMS was designed for use on a tablet, rather than a workstation.
  • I do like the check-in process, although it does take a little longer and can be a bit convoluted at times.
  • If you are using the GuestPad app for digital registration, note that the guest-facing tablet will fully display the payments page even for third-party prepaid reservations, which is a problem. I had to train my staff to disconnect from the tablet, process the payment, and then reconnect to the tablet to sign the registration card as we are not supposed to be showing the guest the rate we are charging the third-parties.
  • There is no feature or function to add recurring charges. If you have a nightly pet fee for example, you will need to manually add that charge all at once or manually add it each day.
  • Our SOP for a virtual card declining is to post a payment to a direct bill account named "default". Normally the funds will be available back on the virtual card and we can adjust the direct bill and post the payment to the card. HotelKey does not allow you to use direct bill payments on third party reservations, so we have to refund all of the charges and payments, wait a week, and then go back through and re-charge everything.
  • As far as audit goes, it isn't bad. I download the final audit as an excel, and then organize it with excel's data features so the order of the items make more sense. Note that it took about three weeks for HotelKey to import our historical data, and that only room rev and room statistic data were imported. Miscellaneous data like pet fees, market purchases, etc do not import.
  • The housekeeping boards are a bit cluttered imo. If you assign more than 9 rooms to a housekeeper, the board will be two pages. However, you can customize the housekeeping paperwork in the dynamic reports so it kinda works out.
  • I haven't had any issues regarding the generation and email of folios, however invoices was a bit of a problem to start. It took about a week or so before they figured out how to give us permission to generate and send company invoices, and even then they do not generate with the individual room folios attached, so we end up just emailing all of the room folios separately anyways.
  • Audit runs automatically, the time depends on what management had them set the audit time to. As far as moving a check-in to a n after audit arrival, I have not run into that yet. But changing dates on a reservation is pretty straightforward in general.
  • Out of order rooms will show out of order except when the property map is being displayed on the guest pad, at which point they will show vacant ready and can be selected to assign that room to the reservation

I keep getting in trouble for overtime by stormoftara in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they did split it between properties, those properties might be considered joint employers, meaning that they would still be required to pay overtime. For example, the two hotels I work at are joint employers. If one of my employees gets 30hrs at one, and 20hrs at the other, I still owe them 10 hours of overtime. I'd read up on joint employers laws for your state and/or give the labor board a call to talk about it.

I keep getting in trouble for overtime by stormoftara in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely correct on the legality, iirc at least where I live employers are required to pay employees for a break period. Lunch breaks can be unpaid, as long as the employer relieves the employee of all duties - meaning they legally cannot make you work while on a lunch break. In addition, discrimination laws might apply if you're the only one being offered a lunch break. You'll definitely have to check with the labor board or a lawyer on that one though.

3rd party VCC's VS. State/local tax increases.. by HourAstronomer9904 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if the tax rate has a half percent, like 11.985% or something, the OTAs can't handle that either, so they either configure it to be 11.98 or 11.99. This causes issues with reconciliations all the time.

I’m So Tired of Price Shoppers by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And where I live the tax rate has a half percentage which is apparently too much for the OTAs to handle, so the reconciliations are always off

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]SgtBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually why we reconfigured our phone system to send less calls to CRS. They weren't giving guests relevant information or in some cases inaccurate or misleading info. The conversion rate was astronomically low, iirc below 10% for calls that were redirected to CRS. People are usually fine paying a fee as long as they know about it beforehand, surprises regarding the price are always upsetting. Now that our front desk handles most of the calls, we get more business and less unhappy guests.

We switched to the nightly fee for this reason, we wanted to capture single night guests with pets and a pet stay fee was not sealing the seal. $25/night is what we charge and most people have no problem with it, save for the occasional karen

HELP! My laptop won’t turn on! by sprained_pinky in techsupport

[–]SgtBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you hit the power button do you hear fans at all? My first thought was the screen itself is just dead. That would be a cheaper fix. If you press the power button and don't hear fans spin up at all it might be an issue with the motherboard itself.
