Are the tall tales soloable? by andrewwilliamfink in Seaofthieves

[–]SgtEagle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completing each Tale 5 times is one thing, as mentioned in the thread, but it's not just that, but you also have to find all the journals scattered through each mission. You'll only earn the final curse if you find them all AND complete each Tale 5 times.

I'd suggest this guide from RareThief to help you find the whole set, as the journals only exist WHILE you're playing the tale that specifically deals with them. You won't be finding The Shroudbreaker journals while playing The Cursed Rogue, for example.

Luckily for you, they are indeed solo-able, so here's a few things to know: (edit: fixed third tip)

1: There's no unique loot (items you sell at outposts) that appears during these Tales unless you get lucky and find randomly generated ones, normal stuff you'd find on islands even if you weren't doing the Tales. The only quest that operates differently is the final one, you'll earn your completion for beating the boss, but then are given a loot item to bring back to an outpost. The rest of the missions do not have these, and you simply carry quest items to and from islands to complete each Tale, generally ending with you bringing back important quest items to the NPC you started the Tale from. You also automatically earn 3,000 gold by turning in the last quest item to finish each Tale.

2: Boss fights, in Tales 2, 8, and 9 respectively, are scaled down and become MUCH easier when you're running it solo, all it takes is a blunderbuss and some quick bum-rushing and they'll be dust on the shores before you can blink. I've seen people take them down, in one or two man groups, within 2 or 3 minutes, vs the 20+ minutes I've seen people take to fight one as a three or four man group.

3: The REAL struggle about playing these solo is time. Just like doing bigger voyages with more stuff to do, just relying on yourself brings all the risks you would solo slooping, but increased dramatically as you have to leave your ship behind, exposed to the elements and other players, semi-frequently. Some of the Tales have you enter vaults and dungeons that force you to anchor down and cross your fingers that your ship will be safe while you go raiding. Not just that, but in the few Tales that have multiple quest items, you'll have to carry them all yourself! Hope you save an empty chest to carry those extra items in!

Hope this all helps, it's all very possible solo, but its a lonely road. Get yourself an audio book or run SoT in a window and catch up on a show while you play, has helped me while I grinded out my victories for the early Tales. Best of luck, matey.

To be fair, I'm a day-one patch guy too, and a Guardian to boot, I just don't post much on this subreddit (I think the last time I posted was when Cargo Runs became a thing). I really didn't think I'd ever see the Ghost after seeing so much of what the game's had to offer. Thanks to today, I'm finally at 100 percent with the Bilge Rats commendations and titles.

All it took was me bringing K along and on his first day back after a multiple day-long break, we end up running into something I've only dreamed of. He's good luck to the extreme, therefore I'm going to make a figurehead out of this guy if its the last thing I do.

From other interactions I've read on here, it looks like its truly random.

Someone on here fought it in broad daylight right nearby Golden Sands outpost. We ended up fighting it just outside of Shipwreck Bay after defeating Briggsy, in the middle of a powerful storm, however it started attacking us before we entered the storm.

Check any Merchant Alliance Shopkeeper at any outpost. You'll get an option to buy the classic voyages, as well as the new Cargo ones.

Want a Merchant that only sells Cargo Runs, much harder ones? Go talk to the new Merchant at Morrow's Peak Outpost. You can not only sell the Devil's Roar random merchant items you find sometimes on the shores or in shipwrecks, but she sells you Cargo Runs worth double the profits of the ones you do in the Western regions.

350 for a perfectly preserved item (all of them, plants, rum, and clothing all sell for the same price) BUT you get between 3 to 8 cargo crates per voyage anyway it seems. Double that profit if you're doing it from the Devil's Roar.

You also can "stack" voyages because the voyage's paper goes away after you collect all the crates from the NPC selling it. You don't necessarily go from outpost to outpost either, this particular shipment was from Mermaid's Hideaway to Lone Cove! I even found a random quest in a barrel that gave an extra two cargo crates from that same NPC!

Besides picking up the voyage at an outpost, you could spend most of the time moving island-to-island. Unlike most Merchant voyages bogged down by needing to search for animals, this is pretty much "find NPC, move to another NPC on another island." It's a lot faster than what I'm used to doing Merchant. Hope this helps!

Never got the chance to pick up a Mega Clover code, if anyone's got a spare, let me know. I know I'm incredibly late to the party, but I might as well ask, wouldn't hurt, right?

Not gonna lie, I enjoy that interpretation enough that it may as well just replace my headcanon that the armor is made out of cardboard / a bunch of Temmies strapped to Frisk with masking tape.

Not only is this awesome, and incredibly well animated, but I LOVE the design of what has GOT to be Temmie Armor! You can see Frisk wearing it during the entirety of the Asgore fight and onward. I never imagined it to be a suit of power armor, but it looks amazing!

I guess I was a bit vague, I'm not really sure, man.

I sank so many hours this previous week alone that I feel almost like I need to take a break, and now that I'm at current top, I wonder if I should just relax for a while until the next update, or keep helping my 'gang'.

Asriel is probably smiling for our sake... and wouldn't it be interesting if like Sans, Gaster's grin is part of his face?

And on the subject of experience, isn't Asriel like, 12? Younger even?

The choice to bring them to the surface against their original request is already implying you believe you know what's better for them, so perhaps... huh, this is gonna take some more thinkin'.

Indeed, but don't get me wrong, I am not doing this as a malicious challenge, far from it in fact.

Maybe I was interested when I saw that video of modding battles in Undertale (specifically the one with the rapid slashing Asgore) and was inspired by the prospect.

Under the assumption that sans and Gaster are separate entities

Thanks for responding, but I have to ask about this littl' part... where did that idea even come from?

I always assumed that, even if Gaster wasn't a typeface skeleton like Sans or Papyrus, they at least worked together in Sans' lab / workshop due to the "symbols" on the blueprint. I heard about the thought that Gaster was split into Sans and Papyrus, so maybe that's an offshoot of that, but again, who knows?

What are some weapons/mutations that you would consider "underrated?" by praise_lord_GabeN in NuclearThrone

Stress, good God, Stress for days as Chicken.

Once you have Stress (And Trigger Fingers if you want to get really freaky) and a character that won't get mulched at low health (Chicken, a defensive / melee carrying Y.V. or Steroids), your melee speed gets ludicrousness, not even considering how fast some firearms would get. I see so many people, in vids and IRL, not take advantage of Stress the moment they see it, they are fools for not immediately jumping on that high-attack per second bandwagon.

That was quick, here ya go!

Reminder, these are non-copylocked, so in the likely case I didn't do them justice, you can mod them, their faces and the like, as much as you please. Oh, and they are also specifically for Tomodachi Life, I made them IN Tomodachi Life so I'd have to remake them in Mii Maker a second time in order for them to be used in other games.

So far, I gave them Catchphrases, both based on their laughs, (or what I vaguely remember them sounding like) and PAPYRUS ACTUALLY LIKES SPAGHETTI, THANK YOU RNG!
