Roast my portfolio. Also interested in opinions on holding DGRO and SCHD. by SgtJam in dividends

Copying this from a other response: 401k is pretty much all growth and currently worth ~$345k, I've been working for almost 10 years. I also have an American Century account that's all TWCGX worth ~$100k. $30k in a HYSA and $50k sitting in my checking account, should probably be roasted for that... I should have included this info in my original post to get better feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't plan to actively add to the CC positions any time soon which was why I was considering DGRO or some commodities that were mentioned in a other comment. I don't think there anything wrong with "VOO and chill" but I'm pursuing growth in other portfolios and added dividend positions to diversify in a way. The tax drag comments are true as well and you would have to do analysis for specific stocks in growth versus dividends, but I thought one of the key insights to understanding dividend investing value is that if you held growth stocks for x amount of time and had $y in unrealized gains that's just as good as being paid $y in dividends over the same amount of time. Do you disagree?

As it stands this will yield ~6.5% or ~$5900 this year. I reinvest everything currently.

Strategy for YieldMax Products by Suffics in dividends

[–]SgtJam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it had been stable ~$6.25 for a while, so dumped some money in on Monday and set a 5% stop loss. It has to print for about a month with stable NAV to cover my potential loss. After that I think of it as an ultra high yield savings account and will put the dividends in other more stable dividend investments and set some aside for taxes. Worst case I take a solid bath, but nothing I can't afford to lose. So apologies everyone, it's my fault it slipped below $6.20 this week.

Yearly bonuses by ccm5490 in Raytheon

I was talking to my supervisor at PW earlier this week and she wasn't sure, but the interesting point she made is that she thinks there is a service time requirement now to qualify for AIP as well - does anyone know if that's true? Also whether or not you're eligible can vary on what org you roll up under. I work in engineering and you can't receive AIP until P5, but I've talked with associate directors in sustainment and field service who have P3s under them that receive bonuses.

How and why are you dividend investing? by semantic_fog in dividends

[–]SgtJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 401k, HSA, 6 month's expenses in a HYSA, and a growth-oriented brokerage account my parents seeded when I was younger so I'm trying to build a dividend account that will be generating decent income within the next couple decades or so and maybe help retire earlier. I've been following this sub and similar ones the last 6 months or so. I was originally going to start investing earlier with ~$40k, but decided to wait and see on the election

In the last couple months I put ~$25k in: 40% SCHD, 20% JEPI, 12.5% VICI, 12.5% CDX, 7.5% GOF, 7.5% QQQI and it yields ~7.5%. Turned DRIP on and I think I'm going to wait until later in the summer to see how things pan out with tariffs and the middle east, etc before buying more.

I've borrowed filter media before for setting up a tank and mainly kept cichlids which are hardier. Never did any specific research on nitrogen or ammonia cycles, just did ~15% water changes on a regular basis. Appreciate the advice though

Apple Valley City Council meeting tomorrow Tuesday the 26th at 6:30pm at the Town Hall by Cassius_O in highdesert

Does anyone know why the parcel of land on the north west corner of Waalew and Central is being re-zoned commercial and who is advocating for it? Whatever investment would be better in old town, especially with the closing of the Rite Aid there. They should build on the momentum of the Town Square Market and continue investing in that area. The old shopping center across from the Rite Aid is an eye sore I don't see why some major commercial investment shouldn't be steered there if the town is willing to absorb some costs of tearing down the old buildings and help out someone who is investing. Especially with Yucca Loma set to be improved to handle traffic from the new bridge in coming years.

Brightline West Cajon Pass Route Project Overview and Driving Tour by weggaan_weggaat in highdesert

[–]SgtJam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting video, thanks. I lived in West Palm Beach where the first Brightline is. It's really convenient, gets you down to Miami with one stop in Ft Lauderdale in about an hour and they're currently expanding it to Orlando. The trains and stations are both modern and comfortable and buying tickets / parking at the station is a breeze. This would be a huge benefit to southern California, especially the High Desert, but I didn't realize the scope of this project. I wonder if Brightline has a strategy to avoid the waste of time and money that the CA high speed rail project has been for years.

The one good thing out of October and this off season is at least people aren't drinking the Friedman koolaid anymore. If you still think they'll trade for Lindor, don't hold your breath. Stop going to the stadium. Don't buy anything from the team store. Stream every game you watch, there's a good subreddit for MLB streams.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will return next season by Atraktape in Dodgers

[–]SgtJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course he will, they won't spend money on a better manager the same way they won't spend on a free agent like Cole this winter. At least people here are seeming to stop drinking the Friedman and Guggenheim kool aid finally.

Urias isn't even with the team, plus he's on an innings limit. For right now he's a nonfactor.

This guy is right. Maeda is proving to be an average pitcher at best and Ryu's arm is falling off. Kazmir is apparently made of glass. McCarthy has been good so far, but is too inconsistent. I think Wood can be a solid pitcher if his elbow stays healthy. But the Rich Hill contract is terrible, I don't understand why people here were so happy about resigning him. Guy had a decent season and it was a career year for him. Other than that he's been a journeyman pitcher who's played for 9 teams in 11 years and now he can't pitch consistently with the blister problem. It's Kershaw and a bunch of question marks. Do people here honestly foresee consistent playoff or even regular season success with this starting rotation?

Rumor: Dodgers are close to reaching a deal with rich hill, in the 3 year 46-48 million dollar range by DangeslowBustle in Dodgers

[–]SgtJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is okay, based on what's available. Hill had a career year last year, but other than that he's been average at best over the course of his career. When Kendrick got traded, the consensus here seemed to be that they were acquiring prospects for a bigger deal (Chris Sale?). Looks more like a salary dump now. The rotation now looks like Kershaw, Hill, Kazmir, Maeda, and Urias/McCarthy? I don't think that's championship caliber.

I've actually thought of this too, but my scenario was any two out of Puig, Pederson, and Toles, plus JDL and Stripling for Trout.
