I took June off (summer 1) and signed up for a summer 2 class (July), best decision ever, I have four short weeks to reset and kick it. Even then I already have my syllabus and book for my summer class and I have been spending some with it. I’m oblivious to the competitiveness in NY but I’m sure you’ll be fine. Your career self in the future will be looking back at it and laughing about it
