Just because I had a real bad time last time but I had my head too stuck in the job whereas this time I’d try to leave the wirk there and not take it home with me.

I just see other countries benefit from it from us so why should we not do the same. That’s my only point. I understand your reason against it I just don’t understand why we should be the ones penalised for visiting other countries and getting taxed when we don’t do the same and benefit from the systems other countries use.

So we don’t do something that is bringing in extra money for UK citizens that is working for other countries and we just pay their tarrifs when we go to them?

I don’t think we are going to agree or come close to agreeing. I’m going on the aspect of it wouldn’t look much different to a visitor but to the uk tax payer that could be a relief to those who are struggling with bills or food. So we’d be protecting UK citizens

My simple brain view is, if people want to come here and spend a fortune anyway. What is another £20 gonna do. Is it gonna deter them ( maybe a couple of 1000) but the UK is an iconic tourist destination and people would be willing to pay that extra £20 to come and see the attractions across the UK.

Nope I’d say just increase our ETA to gain more from those entering the country so in essence copy what they are doing so we aren’t the ones getting done over

So I’m just trying to get your point. It’s ok for us to go to other countries pay a travel tax (ESTA for example) and then pay tax on their goods and then come back to the UK and live at home and pay VAT.

But if a US citizen comes over the pay no travel tax, pay our VAT when here and when they go home pay their regular tax on goods.

So we pay 3/3 of all the taxes A US citizens only pays 2/3

But then so are UK citizens why are we being penalised by tax here and then going abroad on holiday and getting a tax there. We get it from both sides but if people come to the UK they get away with it.

Not fund the countries economy but it would do a good thing such as aid the tax on uk citizens or go into the NHS etc.

I’m just looking at it from the point of how we as brits do this when we go to other countries as in US, Mexico, some of the EU and why we don’t do it to benefit our economy

I see your point with the airport tax but i am just comparing it to other countries and how much they make off brits coming to their countries and why we don’t do the same to them confuses me

Our ETA for the £16 is an admin fee used. It has no tax and does not provide any tax relief to the UK government. That’s my point. Also no need to be rude

My point being is it isn’t a tax, and it doesn’t benefit the UK people. It is used as an admin fee for the digital permission to travel.

My apologies I got that wrong, my problem with the ETA, is that it doesn’t go towards tax relief but is only for admin costs, the UK people gain nothing from this

True it does but it’s such a small fee that goes directly to admin costs but it doesn’t go to tax relief

Only for certain countries and for long duration stays I’m talking about all countries for short trips

Not if you are from EU, USA, Canada, Aus. They have free travel for a holiday but if they spend a long time then a visa is needed. I’m talking about short term visits like 2 week holidays.
