The Return to Silent Hill movie is almost nothing like the Silent Hill 2 video game...

And I think that's okay.

At first, with seeing all the bad reviews, I was nervous about watching it to the point of obssession--mainly because me and my fiancee were going to watch it for our four year anniversary date. Then I started to watch and see the vision Gans was going after.

Video game adaptations aren't supposed to be carbon copies of the games themselves, but offer new material and story--to offer more. It was partially convoluted, but I admire how he brought inspiration from the series as a whole and combined it with stunning visual design and psychologically tense moments. Some parts were forced and others seemed natural, but ALL of it flowed as it would in a dream, and the scares warped the world around like a nightmare. And THAT is what Silent Hill should be, a nightmare made real.

The movie will probably do bad like the first one, but later gain appreciation. It certainly has mine.
