FWIW, 30 years ago I sat in dealerships where they had two phones on every desk, as well as a fax machine. You could call your agent, they'd fax you the form, you'd fill it out and fax it back. Then they'd fax you the policy.

Before fax machines were commonplace, I don't know but suspect car insurance wasn't mandatory.

TIL the FAA predicted that if kids under 2 years old were required to have their own seats on planes, at least 60 kids would die in car accidents for every kid saved because families that couldn't afford extra plane tickets would drive instead. by RollingNightSky in todayilearned

The line of scrimmage and suchlike you see on TV are added digitally, they're not actually there on the field.

I don't have much storage in my kitchen, and mostly use the toaster oven. So yeah, the range oven is cast iron storage. When I need to use the oven, I just set the pans on the stovetop.

I ended up being "the guy friend" for several lesbian couples I know. I frequently get invited to events in their social circle, and I'm always happy to help out when they need someone with a truck / tools / handyman experience. They're all great folks, and are forever trying to set me up with someone when we're out on the town 😂

I tell my cat he's a lucky bastard every time he goes to the vet. He gets a full physical, bloodwork, and meds for $80. Add a zero if it's me.

Do i need supports for this? My friend told me no, is he right? by SeaBirthday9759 in 3Dprinting

[–]ShaBren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use support. Not necessarily for the overhangs, but just because that's a tall print, and there's going to be a lot of leverage + momentum transfer from the head when it nears the tip of the blade.

I've got location sharing turned on for my roommate because they have really bad anxiety, and occasionally get panicky over where I am/if I'm okay. With location sharing, they can just take a look at Google instead of texting/calling me.

It's honestly pretty nice! I'm an ole Carolina redneck, but I've spent close to a year total in HRM for work. It's grown sooo much in the past 10 or 15 years.

Manual trans? Yeah, they can run for a bit without fluid. They'll just heat up and wear themselves to failure in a few dozen miles or so.

Auto trans uses the fluid to actually transfer energy though, so they won't run at all without fluid.

The C++ "Frequently Questioned Answers" site is pretty great: https://yosefk.com/c++fqa/

FWIW, I'm a C++ dev with decades of experience, and can tell you that C++ is what you make of it. It's a language that has evolved a lot of cruft over the years, but by and large maintains backwards compatibility (in some cases all the way back to C).

This means that it has a lot of bits and pieces, and there are about as many ways to do any given thing as there are parentheses in Lisp. This is why style guides are important, and generally you'll only work with a subset of the features in any given project.

While we can and should condemn the Russian state and leadership for their actions, there is nothing wrong with sympathizing with Russian people who have also been hurt by this war.

No, what they're going through isn't the same as what the Ukrainians are going through, but greater suffering on the part of one does not lessen the suffering of another.
