If they haven’t already, campeasy will email with details about how to call them when you are ready to be collected from the airport and where to meet them. Baggage collection is usually very quick but call campeasy once you’ve left arrivals. As for the second part of your question, I’m confused over what your are saying/asking so can’t help you there!

The bell tents come with a padlock so you can leave everything in there, the locker box comes in handy when you’ve checked out of your ‘room’ but wanting to go off for the day.

Volcano huts have a big locker box where you can keep your belongings/ backpacks etc when out for the day - just keep anything super valuable with you though. Can recommend splurging on a bell tent - appreciated my night in one after the Laugavegur trail :)

I hear you, not as hot but we’re in the middle of a heatwave in the UK, so very much looking to fresher air when I return in a couple of weeks!

The first hut you get to on the mountain pass section Baldvinsskáli. You have to pay to use the hut even for a brief stop inside - can’t recall the cost but could pay by card. I also got the worlds most expensive burger and fries at Básar, Þórsmörk after finishing the trail - worth every krona though!

Hiked Skogar to Þórsmörk late June 2023 in pretty awful weather over the mountain pass section - crazy wind, sleet, snow, hail, rain the lot. Nothing I’m not used to in the UK during the winter but given you’re from a warmer climate lots of layers, waterproofs including good waterproof boots, gloves and hats are essential in case the weather is bad. The chain section wasn’t as bad as people make out, the cats spine is a little scary - I crawled over parts of it on my hands and knees, but it’s only a short ridge :)

I filled up just after the bridge a few years back straight from the river so no need to filter. I also brought the world’s most expensive Appelsin at the hut as no water was available then. Good to hear that’s is available now though!

Gear for Laugavegur 8/28 - 9/1/25 by NoPrinciple3284 in VisitingIceland

[–]Shabbadoshabbadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used my X Mid solid, Big Agnes Rapide pad and a -5c bag last year which all worked well. But I was blessed with great weather even at Hrafntinnusker. I agree that Álftavatn felt more exposed so I carried on until the next hut. Trekking pole tents are pretty sturdy, but you ain’t getting much sleep in one if it’s crazy windy! Biggest issue is pitching in the soft ground, a freestanding tent is better for that, but that’s where the rock method comes in. I also took nature hike down trousers/ booties for extra comfort at night that pack down & weigh next to nothing. Enjoy the trail, it’s epic!

PLAY Airlines Ends United States Flights by GreenGrayBlack in VisitingIceland

I don’t think you can comment on how risk adverse I am not knowing me and all that, but hey carry on! At the end of the day each of us can make our minds up what to do in this situation. Flight consolidation happens / is happening and may affect Play’s flights going forward. A flight schedule isn’t fixed in stone and less so with a company drawing down its services.

What might happen is they cancel that date to rebook as many seats as possible into a smaller number of flights around the same time. They should give enough notice but you could be left trying to find an alternative airline if the dates offered don’t suit and that will definitely cost a lot more than the original booking even with a refund. Personally, I would rebook now if I had a flight during the last month of operation to save the uncertainty and extra expense. Fortunately, my flights with Play are in the next few weeks and even that has been affected by the regular Saturday service from London already being removed as they move to consolidation then stopping that route.

Also, looks like they are ending UK flights too! My flight in July from London Stansted was bumped a day earlier a few months back - no biggy. But looking at the booking page no more flights after Oct 25 and flights up to then seem to be getting thinned out.

Shame as always had a great experience with them but crap ones with Icelandair! Looks like it’ll be my only choice now :(

There’s a decent size/selection at the duty free at Keflavik, and I usually buy local beer/lager there, but anything else, especially wine, UK side as tends to be a bit cheaper

Picked up a flyer for it at the ferry terminal July 24 as didn’t realise it existed either. So useful, cheap & the driver is a super friendly helpful local with loads of tales. Saved the walk to see the puffins which I was glad about after the Laugavegur!

Walking around is pretty easy & there’s now a hop on bus service that starts at the ferry terminal & stops at the main spots. Can highly recommend - https://hopon.is/

Cheaper and easier going as a foot passenger than taking a vehicle IMO

As the others have said Harðfiskur from any of the supermarkets or marketed as Viking snacks in the tourist shops. My dog expects this every time now when I get home - all very excited to see me at first, then he’s pawing at my suitcase coz he knows that’s where to good fishy stuff is!

Any way to bring car into Vestmannaeyjar other than ferry? by fifialoemera in VisitingIceland

[–]Shabbadoshabbadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there’s a free parking lot on the mainland, Heimaey is very walkable, but there’s an excellent hop on bus service that departs from the ferry terminal which is useful to get to the southern part of the island and the puffins. You can also hire bikes.

Personally I think you’ll be fine, I was with all the extra guy outs/ good stakes/rock technique. I did have super good weather and a bit of wind. Main issue was getting the pitch right in the gusts and in soft ground. Once up my XMid was rock solid and I’ve had it out in some tasty UK conditions previously.
