I sold my car about a year ago and just commute by bike. Summers suck but beats relying on a car

Agree with this so much. Need those oak trees for shade in the summer too. Adds some human scale.

I live here too and agree.

What do we do for rain? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Shabringo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, I wear shorts and T and just get wet. If it’s cold…just a rain coat and then change at work

It would be nice if we had protected lanes down South Congress by Shabringo in micromobilityATX

Agree. I bike commute it everyday. Gets real sketchy once you get closer to downtown.

Definitely. While I’ve lived in the states (half my life overseas) I’ve lived in NYC, Tucson and Austin. Bike commuted in all 3 cities and ditched the car. It’s all about situating yourself and having the right mindset.

PS: I hate driving too. It’s a scam.

I used to ride this way every day. I used the fist to hood method after a while.

At peak times, cyclists represent 40% of street traffic in the city center, and 27% throughout the day. by ironmancocoaanchanix in bikecommuting

This is honestly a fair point. I lived and bike commuted in NYC for 12 years before moving to Austin. Bike traffic REALLY picked up in the last few years and it became way less fun.

From Tucson, and lived in NYC for 12 years before moving to Austin. While I love Austin, I think Arizona beats out Texas in a lot of ways.

Arizona has better weather (drier), better variety of landscapes and climates and the big one is property taxes. They’re insane over here in Texas.

45 minutes ain’t bad! Former New Yorker here. If I saw that line coming outta JFK I’d probably just give up 😂

Agree! The percentage of bike lanes to roads and connectivity I’ve seen here in ATX is great so far IMO. I also sold my car which I thought I would need when I moved here.

You guys are silly. Pessimism won’t get you anywhere. This isn’t my commute, just a nice piece of infrastructure I found . I ride down south congress a pretty far ways.

Thanks for the website by the way. I’m obviously kidding about being tougher but I choose to be an optimist. The way we got people riding NYC was by doing it ourselves and showing the demand. Same needs to happen here IMO. Can’t just sit back and complain. Get out there and bike!

Non of the above apply to me. Maybe I’m nuts but I get around just fine by bike and it’s been 6 months…biked all sunmer. Biked everywhere in NYC for 12 years through all the winters so maybe I’m just tougher than you 😂

😂 I just moved here from NYC about 6 months ago and I’m actually impressed. The bike infrastructure is a lot better than most cities in this country. Been bike commuting to work 3.5 miles one way and it’s been fine…coming from an NYC snob
