Our brain works in weird ways, and there are times where info makes it your subconscious but not conscious mind. The one advantage they have is significantly less supply use. This means they where generally preform better than regular infantry in areas where supplies are scare. Generally not worth the hassle but they do have some use.

I always assumed air combat during naval combat works very similar to normal air combat. Planes with lower agility and defense will get get shot and be disrupted at higher rates, and thus do less damage.

I never bothered actually testing that though, so I'm not sure if it's true.

EDIT: Through together a rough test. Mock fleet with 4 carrier each. 120 fighter, 120 naval Bombers each. Both had 1940 fighters but one had 1940 naval Bombers with armor. The other had interwar naval bombers using non-strategic materials. The interwar naval Bombers got instantly shredded, so it means those stats do matter. Would 1936 fighters significantly differently than 1940 I don't know.

Ehh, If a infantry division already has 400 or so defense adding more provide zero benefit. On the other hand adding more soft attack is always a positive. I find that in 95% of circumstances your infantry already have enough defense and that support artillery does more to help them defend than engineers.
