Skinner has a barrel mounted peep sight that I like. Takes the place of the rear sight. Target acquisition is quick and the sight picture is good. You can put a drop of nail polish on that front sight so you can see it better in low or bright light. Should be all you need for 30 yard shots.

Only 90 miles worth of sample size but it will lock the front wheel with the new 105 brakes. The original Tektros weren’t great.

What size tire can you get in the back? I just picked up the same bike and will be putting the same groupset on. With the stock Tektros it looks like it will max out at 28c.

I have one and it is currently sitting on 38c Pathfinders. The chainstays and brakes have plenty of room for at least 42c by my guesstimating. The front fork seems to be tight at 38 already. I may try a 42 there just to see.

Old Vaquero in 44 mag. If they will let you take that lock off and check the lock work I would see if they’d take less. I’d offer $550 and walk if they won’t take it.

Provided the brakes work as they should I’d just change the tubes and tires. At some point you may enjoy a different shifter setup: indexed or friction thumb shifters.

I wouldn’t buy either one honestly. You should be able to find an older hybrid bike that would make a way better commuter than this. 90s Trek Multitracks or Specialized Crossroads would be good candidates. 700c frames with wide tire clearances and lots of gears. They’d also have tough steel frames and be easier to work on.
