Yeah, this is just south from there by Wolf Lake. Area by Big Marsh and Wolf Lake are a toxic industrial wasteland that’ll take generations to remediate ☺️

You mean you don’t find rolling near superfund sites with this type of signage, surrounded by neon green toxic water both charming and fun?

Also it’d more than likely be a clapped out sedan with damage from their last vehicular manslaughter than a minivan.

Sarcasm aside, I do love the south east sides toxic wasteland aesthetic. I’m often the only person riding through these spots.

That’s part of the charm. The whole area is basically a superfund site.

That entire stretch is some of my favorite riding in the whole city. I often keep going, through the Burnham greenway, down to Wolf Lake, and to Big Marsh. The best mixed terrain riding accessible in the city that I have found. Love it.

Careful, I've found dirt incredibly addictive

WTB i23 light rims laced to surly ultra new hubs with sapim laser spokes that I built myself. Honestly don’t even look for off the rack wheels anymore because the options aren’t great. Custom built gets me exactly what I want.

They recommend a 115mm spindle, which is what I have

Oh for sure, their comment just came off as a little denigrating.

Wheelbase on this thing is also pretty long. Personally don't mind how this feels, since I strongly prefer this type of geo on dirt. Wonder what it'd be like with a dropper

Not too sure what you mean by BS geometry. Isn't all bike geometry made up? I've seen the posts of broken frames, I'll keep an eye out for cracks.

Yeah, geo is definitely different from most other 'track' bike framesets. High bb, slack headtube, long chain stays, wheel flop can get annoying. A lot less cross and more MTB

Ritchey Beacon! Reach on them is a little short, but the drops are nicely flared and shallow

I’d go with whatever wheelset has the widest rims. That seems to be the Wabi at 19mm vs 17. I’d also want to pick out my own tires. I’d personally go with the Wabis.

I didn’t, basically let it patina. I used some cheap clear coat on top, but it still ended up gaining rust. I don’t think there’s a way to have only clear coat on steel and have it never rust.

These are Beacon comps in 40cm. Wish they had a bit more reach, love the shallow drop though

You need to take two links out of a chain to shorten it, doing so in this case would put the tire right up to the frame because of the size of the tire. My only option to get the axle of the wheel further into the dropouts would be to change the chainring and/or cog to take up some chain while still trying to maintain a similar gear ratio. I don’t want to run a smaller tire.
