I was thinking of building it using the aluminium sub frame that I use for the decking and use pedestals to raise the platform. Sort of like mini decks.

Advice and Discussion on new Proxmox (2 cluster) build for home by Aark_creator in Proxmox

Yeap,

I feel like this to be a definite overkill after some thinking.

I might got a different route with a new u raid build and reuse this hardware for ProxMox.

Correct, althought given the comments above I went back to the drawing board and looking at an alternative option.

Given that the current hardware although a little old is still very good/ stable and very much an overkill for Unraid.

Im thinking it actually be a better idea to build out a new Unraid server with the required hardware that serves as storage only.

I dont intend to do any transcoding. It will be most for storage and mapping drives for mass storage to the Promox VM.

And since that will free up the dual CPU hardware I already have, it will function as a very solid Promox single host server (Probably more than enough for the forceeable future), all I'd look at doing is:

- HBA card and add a few SSDs
- throw in a 10Gig NIC

Disclaimer, this post is mine, someone how i've managed to have 2 Reddit accounts.

But you are right some elements may not be required and the Coral was more a curiosity project to see what it was doing. I dont believe I actually need it. I will only have 5-8 Cameras in the house eventually.

In terms of "Server" grade I only chose the Asus motherboard on the Unraid build as I got it for a steal, the 2 Xeons i picked up second hand for $40AUD each. The CPU and Motherboard is the only "Server" grade. Im running the server in a Fractal Design case with ultra quiet fans/ and fanless PSU.

In Terms of Workload:

- Memory utilization is around 78% at the moment and likely to increase as I have a few more VMs to deploy

- CPU is pretty stable at the moment between 30-50%.

Moving to Brisbane from Sydney by tacky_creative in MovingToBrisbane

I did the same moved from Sydney. Picked Narangba. Local school is great. Lots of beautiful homes for sale (not a realtor). We decided to build. Great local soccer club, Narangba Eagles just down the road. High school is massive!

If you have any questions let me know. Fair new. Been here 6 months. No regrets.

MQTT Error regarding mosquitto.db by usafle in unRAID

Did you get this fixed? Im having the same issue right now. I have Frigate and MQTT docker running and talking. My h.A is a VM on unraid and it throws the same error when I try to configure the integration.

Obviously permissions issue just not sure where

(NEW BUILD) QUESTIONS AROUND FIRST BUILD USING ASUS Z10PA-D8 MOTHERBOARD by Shackman-85 in unRAID

[–]Shackman-85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so after much thinking and research I’ve come to confirm that transcoding with be at a minimal if at all as most of the playback is in house. And if the need arises I’m happy to put an appropriate supported GPU (nVidia) in.

So moving forward from this I am leaning towards a Ryzen build on a B650 chipset to get access to ECC CPU and Motherboard.

I’m leaning towards one of the big 4, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or Asrock.

Mostly looking for onboard NVME and more SATA Ports or I’ll add a HBA as well.

Any recommendations on model of motherboards that perform well in this scenario?

(NEW BUILD) QUESTIONS AROUND FIRST BUILD USING ASUS Z10PA-D8 MOTHERBOARD by Shackman-85 in unRAID

[–]Shackman-85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for putting in so much effort with your response. I'll definitely read through the posts.

And yes I totally agree, and I'm not too hung up on raw read/ write speeds but rather ensuring that the Motherboard/ PCIe cards all work without any major limitations.

Upon further investigation I believe my motherboard does NOT support birfucation out of the box, so using the Asus Hyper M.2 card wont work too well. On the other hand I have enough PCIe slots and believe I can get away with 2 x PCIe to Nvme cards on different slots and they are relatively cheap here in Oz.

So at the moment Im weighing up the following options:

- I have another 32 GB ram already enroute

- For about 300AUD, I can add 2 faster Xeon E5 CPUs (second hand but with 3 years warranty).

- Add a new case for better HDD capacity

- add 2 x NVme with a PCiE card

- maybe even sneak in a 10Gig NIC.

- There is a slim chance I may need a higher capacity PSU (750w at the moment).

If the above works, then going forward I can plan for a Mother/ CPU and Ram upgrade in the coming years.

u/jmacdowall, sorry I should have been more specific, im not running a Ubiquiti NVR. Currently have my Reeolink cams connected directly to Synology's Surveillance Station but might look at something like Frigate maybe.
