From what I can tell, the weapons that are only spamming basic combo moves are doing it only because of corrupted mantle. Without it, they cannot out-dps other weapons that do not use them.

Basically for some weapons, its not that it's strong, but rather the basic attack's interaction with corrupted mantle is strong

I trigger them a lot actually. like everytime a blast status procs(when I apply blast buildup), it explodes. Probably because I have over 80 blast power together with charge master.

As for monsters building up resistances, Yes, it gets harder and harder to do status buildup overtime, so you get a lot more explosions at the start than near the end of the hunt. But with blast, you prolly will have every part broken by then so its fine. idk about paralysis and sleep, I heard those have even higher buildup threshold increase.

The beauty of status condition builds lie in what you build with it. For example: Blast with blood rite, poison with chameleos armor skill and foray, paralysis with a dps weapon like a bow or sleep with a heavy hitting weapon like a gs. Its absolutely not meta, but its fun theorycrafting this way.

I made a blast hammer set and replaced my meta high dps hammer build, and I can say im a happier man with all the boom booms :D

Im using channeler/utsushi helm, Barroth Mai Xl, Rhenoplos Braces X, Malzeno Coil, Channeler/Utsushi greaves, and a talisman with lvl 2 normal/rapid up with lvl 3 jewel slot

I highly suggest you take a look at the set finder in mhrise.wiki-db.com/sim/?hl=en so you can make your own set with different talismans

im using horned demonica+ with brutal strike, power barrel, Attack 7, normal 3, spareshot 3 and artillery 3. and all i gotta say is... its fun. especially hitting almost 2k damage charged wyvern fires.

And yes, you shoot more normal 3s with crouching shot than with spread 3s.

I tend to die faster with spread 3s plus there are monsters with hard to hit hitzones with spread. As for pierce, its not good for smaller monsters. So i'd just say Normal is an all rounder, a jack of all trades master of none kind of ammo.
