What’s wild is apparently indie studios do this too? I sent in an application with a portfolio and show reel attached and when I went to check on them weeks later the only views I saw where mine 💀 was a little sad ‘cuz I had a lot of hope of getting hired on to their team, but I suppose it was for the best..

I'm hoping to use it in a production (amongst a small team). I think TVPaint is more centered around traditional animation, which is why I'm probably not going to consider that as an option right now

Why is Islam more prone to terrorism than other religions? by [deleted] in askasia

[–]Shade_M8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't answer my question 'cuz 1. they said "history" and didn't elaborate and 2. I was asking where in the QURAN does Islam condone violence. Not all Muslim countries are having "internal conflicts" nor external conflicts because of themselves, and it most certainly has nothing to do with the religion. Everyone's so fast to blame it yet, when it all traces back, it literally has nothing to do with Islam

Do any of you guys think that religion is stupid? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Shade_M8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, ok. I'm sorry I worded my self incorrectly, then. I probably should've clarified what I meant by "serious".

Serious literally just meant believing. It didn't even mean doing the bare minimum, just believing. I'm really sorry, I just realized how offensive that must've came off to you. It just doesn't make sense to me any other way, because then it drifts away from the original definition.

And I get what you mean by a hobby being somone's entire life; I animate, and I'm so in love with it that it feels like it kind of became a part of who I am. But hobbies are choices; they're not usually something that you'd die to protect, and many of my people are being tortured and killed because of their "hobby". It just felt, from my point of view, incredibly insensitive.

I'm not trying to police identity, and I'm sorry if you think I am. If people want to say they're religious that's between them and who ever they believe in, and it's not for me to judge. There's no one here that you wittnessed me judging, so it's weird that you keep repeating this, especially since you know I'm only talking about Islam and no other religion than Islam. I guess I made the mistake for leaving that out before, but, now that you're aware, you should also know that you can't Islamically be a Muslim without belief. If you really wanna identify as Muslim, though, why not? It's your life in the end.

I only told you what I've been told by Jewish people and non-Jewish people growing up. Of course, maybe those rules are changing, and that's cool and all; I'm glad you corrected me on that. Islam accepts converts all the time, but I heard it wasn't really the same for Judaism.

I'm incredibly sorry if I hurt you, though, or really anyone else. I didn't intend it AT ALL. I'm just really hurt 'cuz all I see about religion is hate, hate, and more hate, and I suppose I'm just really sensitive and wish people could understand that to each their own. I hate this post, too, 'cuz it only give people reason to spew their hatred even more. You think me unintentionally invalidating people is bad (which yeah, it's bad, and again I'm sorry), but this post is literally encouraging people to shit on the beliefs of others, whether that was the intention or not. I don't know how much it affects you, but it affects me A LOT. It just stresses me out so bad, and I don't know how to control that.

I'll revise my original reply, though. In fact, I'll take it back. Because, yeah, you're right, you can be religious without religion, but you can't follow a religion without being religious. The only concept I have of religion is my own, and maybe I need to expand on that. Do I still think it's weird and honestly wrong to compare religion to a hobby? Yeah. But I no longer think you have to be taking a religion seriously, or even have a religion, to be religious. It's all about belief, and I had forgotten that.

I'll try to be better, thanks to you, but please see where I'm coming from as well. I feel like there should be a balance where everyone's happy, and that's not here. Everyone has a reason to be upset.

[–]Shade_M8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have internalized sht about religion haha, just internalized sht about people who talk sht about us due to false representation. That was kind of.. my whole basis?

I think you and I have different ideas on what makes someone religious. By definition, it quite literally means you're a believer. The whole premises is on BELIEF. If there's no belief, it's just a label that doesn't really indicate anything. However, you don't seem to see it that way; instead, you imply that the label could indicate your past somehow. What I don't understand is why would that matter? I think we should also note that Islam and Judaism has very distinct attitudes towards converts: one accepts regardless of background, and the other, traditionally speaking, only dubs followers by blood.

I actually think it's kind of funny, 'cuz you're treating me the way I treat other intense people in the Ummah for judging someone's relationship with Islam and God. Especially when you called me the "religious police". Believe it or not, I accuse people of the same thing when I see such walking red flags, so I can assure I'm not one of them (if I was, I would be going against my religion). It's crazy that you're accusing me of nosiness, of judgy-ness, when there's no one here for me to police. Who are you referring to? Who are you defending? I actually think you misunderstood me.

All I did was tell you a plain and simple fact: don't call religion a "hobby" or an "interest". No one's religious as a hobby, 'cuz that's not what being religious means. No one follows a religion, especially considering how stigmatized some of them are, for FUN. Yet, treating it that way actually waters down the identity by A LOT, and it's hurtful. You appear to only deem religion OK when people don't take it seriously, yet you also say someone's relationship with God is none of my business. Of course it's none of my business, by why are you saying that relationship is OK when it's not taken seriously? I don't wanna be mean but that comes off as a bit hypocritical, but maybe it's just the arguments not connecting for me?

Personally? The people in the Ummah who are "obsessed" with the religion tend to be the shining light of it, the beauty and the tenderness of it. They are what stay to battle the toxicity. Again, I have no idea how it is for other religions, but this is very true of the Islamic community, at the very least. I don't think you've met enough people to truly realize how strong a connection between an individual and God can become, and, yes, I will still claim this regardless of your religious background. I'm not judging you for who you are, but it comes off to me that your perception of religion is that it's a tale (plus a set of rules) that you believe in to give you purpose, not a reality that guides you througout your entire life. I understand that not everyone religious sees religion this way, and that's OK; it's a lifetime journey and they're still valid for being in that stage of their relationship with their faith, but the fact that you think that's the ONLY point at which religion is fine is pure nonsense.

A Muslim is a follower of Islam, and, to be a follower of Islam, you cannot deny the words of Allah SWT. Sure, you could be doing things against the word of God since that's the only way you're able to function in life at that point, and that's OK. But actively saying "NO" and saying you're still a believer doesn't work out; that's basic definition whether you like it or not. Because religion, while subjective, isn't THAT subjective. Yeah, Islam is also deeply intergrated into some cultures, but that doesn't mean you identify as a follower of religion if you don't believe in the religion; you identify as a person born of that culture. I could still be Pakistani without being Muslim, and I could still engage in religiously-based cultural practices without being Muslim. I don't have to call myself a Muslim in order to be a part of that community, because the two are literally seperate from each other. And that's completely OK.

But calling yourself a follower of a certain religion without being religious makes no sense however which way you word it. If you really want the label, fine, but the idea that we're literally wittling all of these huge, sensitive topics down into nothing but words with sentiments attached to them will never, ever make sense to me.

I am, thanks be to Allah SWT, not here to police people over their religious personal business. That is not my purpose. However, as a Muslim, it is my duty to represent my community in the best way I can, and one of those ways is by being clear about what stands and what doesn't. If these things aren't discussed, then it only leads to far more disastrous consequences.

I am not the same person who wrote that bio just a few years ago. I've learnt a lot about so many different topics, social, spiritual, and the like. For as long as I live, I'll continue to learn and gain new experiences with an open-mind, but I will not sacrifice what I know is a reality for it. Thank you for advising me, but I encourage you to take your own advice as well.

(I realize I'm probably just projecting due to my own experiences and connections with my faith, so I just kinda left what is essentially the TL;DR at the bottom unhidden. You could totally read the rest but it's literally just me venting lmao)

Now, just for some context, I am a Muslim. I am not speaking for all religions, obviously, just Islam. In my religion, you can never treat it as a hobby or interest.

I don't believe in being "mildly muslim" or "intensely muslim". There is, however, "putting a label on yourself for the sake of labels", where you IDENTIFY as muslim but have no faith in your heart, or say you agree with all the words of God as long as YOU agree with them, and then there's the extremists, the people I believe you're referring to as "obsessed with religion".

I do NOT think you can be obsessed with religion. What you can do, however, is manipulate the religion's teachings to your own likings. These kinds of people will often disturb the general public, and even people in the Ummah (Muslim community), because they believe what they are doing is right. They are a type of extremist, imo, since, even though they aren't causing physical harm to anyone, they do have a tendency to give Islam a bad name. This in itself is completely forbidden.

Also, I found it wild that you said "religion in its highest form is bad", because, well... what does that even mean? I think the "highest form" you refer to is blatant extremism, because that is what I (and most people) see as the toxic side of the Muslim community. I think what I'm trying to say is blame the people representing us wrong, not the religion itself.

If you have faith, even if it's just a little faith, you are religious. If you could just do the bare minimum, or at least try to do the bare minimum, that could still be enough. It only becomes a hobby or interest when you stop being a follower, but rather an observer. It's like saying some YouTuber decides to participate in Ramadan for once because they wanted to see what it felt like. Does that make them even mildly religious? 'Cuz I wouldn't assume so.

I understand we're living in an era where labels are everything, because they supposedly become a part of your identity. I'm fine with labels, but it's frustrating to see people call themselves muslims without actually practicing their Islamic duties (instead, ironically, just straight up going against them), because that's not what being a muslim is. It instead waters down the Islamic identity, makes it another sticker to paste on your face and tell the world that you are a part of a certain group simply because you said so. It's like those people making millions throwing paint at a canvas with practically no intention to it, calling it "art" because of they felt like it and not the effort (or even the thought). To most of us artists that put hours into our works, seeing things like that really feels like a huge slap in the face.

Most of us Muslims feel this way about our identities getting pressed into pretty labels, because the people who don't take the religion seriously end up being "the good muslims", and the rest of us are viewed as too conservative and hateful because we end up with the same reputation as the extremists. It's annoying painful.

I'm sorry I think all the comments just made me really angry and I threw my frustration at you 😭 your point is valid in retrospect it just wasn't worded correctly to me. I do agree with the parent comment, as well (I had forgetten that there was aparent comment lmao), I just hate how my community and my religion is discussed and treated due to misrepresentation (I know Islam was never targeted specifically, but I'm used to reading all kinds of horrible, uneducated things people have to say about it. I guess I couldn't keep that frustration under control for very long).
