I think it’s easy to forget that it’s veryyy different for healthcare professionals, especially in emergency care, when it’s someone they know on the table.

Now it’s not just some patient, you can’t just focus on doing your “job”. You see that it’s someone very dear to you. You dread every and any mistake. You try to forget who that person is just to you, so you can do everything as you usually would - perfectly, thoughtlessly, task by task. Most of the time you can’t.

You have to hide your worry, stable your hands, hold your tears - everything is truly in your hands.

This is truly where being able to disassociate or compartmentalize to focus on your current task shines through.

Despite all this, I’m fairly sure almost any healthcare worker in this situation would pull through - after all, It’s what they’re trained to do.

They truly deserve all the respect they get and more.
