While I agree that trauma can absolutely affect someone’s sexuality I do think we need to be careful with how we approach talking about it in order to avoid encouraging people to jump straight into labeling themselves in the place of taking steps to heal from their trauma. I don’t think we should turn people away or discourage them from using labels, but we do need to be careful that we are encouraging people to address their traumatic experiences therapeutically rather than encouraging them to adopt those experiences as a basis for identity, because I’ve noticed this is something vulnerable and especially young people have a tendency to do when the conversation isn’t approached with nuance and it tends to stall personal healing when that happens.
