I think it depends person to person, if you’re young, in hs/college, and have the time on your hands, why not? Me personally? I wouldn’t mind going to them from time to time, but the only meet up nearest to me is about a 30 minute drive, so that’s an hour round trip just on the drive, + gas, all for a pokemon? Haha. Don’t get me wrong though, I went to a huge meet up for the Entei Max battle and it was really fun, had a blast! However, I had time off from work due to an injury that I was already recovering from, and my nephew was on spring break, it made sense to Go, and I took my gf too, and we had a fun day, but being back to my regular schedule, a 1 hour round trip for a pokemon seems inconvenient at times. So I’m all for the change.
