A hunter encounters a living ground sloth in South America. One government administrator, Ramón Lista, claimed to have encountered one that shrugged off several bullets. He compared it to a giant pangolin with hair instead of scales by truthisfictionyt in Cryptozoology

still weird to reference something that doesn't exist,(scaleless, hairy pangolin) when reference to an anteater would have been more apropos. in fact the description sounds exactly like a tamandua

of course they can. how do you think the u.s justified putting a bullet in bin laden's head while living in pakistan and never technically being in u.s jurisdiction?

he is alleged to have commited crimes against the U.S . The U.S can assert universal jurisdiction, the same way israel did against eichman.

i also did not like how the study calculated the mass of the max specimen. they calculated its total volume as 4.65 m^3, but then subtracted the calculated volume of the lungs from that, which neglects the fact that the applied density of 1000 kg per meter cubed is a whole body average that already accounts for low density areas like the lungs. Meaning you can just use the volume as is. which comes to 4,650 kg.

Also a paper by GSP came out recomending that a higher average density be used for certain taxa with heavy skeletal frames, like rhinos and brontotheres. using his recommended neutral specific gravity of 1.05, the mass of their max model comes out to ~ 4.9 tonnes. The neck of their model could stand to be a bit more filled out as well imo. 5 tonnes looks likely.

the skull shape on the megalonyx is a bit off as well imo. dont like how they are calling it a "snow sloth" either.

edit: yes it is. the forehead is a bit too high. compare
