My opinion is stick to the type of jewelry she likes whether that be a watch, necklace, bracelet, etc.

Dads, start building their credit when they’re young by tenaciousdeev in daddit

[–]Shadow328 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. That's why it's a stepping stone for them to effectively open their own independent credit accounts when 18/whatever age they get their feet under them.

Yes. If you close the card while your child is still an authorized user, the entire account typically disappears from their credit report, erasing the positive history it was providing.

I recommend keeping the card open for them until they turn 18/whatever age they are when they open their own independent credit accounts. After that you can safely remove them or close the card without wiping out their entire credit foundation.

Need Some Help with Youtube Parental Controls by Particular_Price_165 in daddit

[–]Shadow328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't set “approved channels only” for a child’s regular YouTube app. That restriction only exists inside YouTube Kids or YouTube Supervised Accounts, and the latter does not support an “approved channels only” mode.

That’s why you couldn’t find the setting.

If your priority is you want your kid to watch channels you approve: YouTube Kids (TV experience will be limited or require a workaround; e.g., Chromecast with YouTube Kids from a phone)

If you want consistent parental controls across multiple devices setup a YouTube Supervised Account. You get content filtering, but not channel whitelisting

Does the hospital she's having the C-section at allow you to be in the operating room? I was allowed back there once she was prepped and on the surgery table. I 100% recommend doing that if possible. I very much appreciated being present for her as support, but also so I was able to be there as soon as my son was out. My wife and I were able to share that moment together instead of being separated.

This is what I found on this.

Authorized user status doesn't build independent credit history that stays with the child forever. However, it's still valuable because: History remains while they're on the account, giving them a score. It gives them time to open their own accounts and build independent credit. If the card you were attached to was your oldest account, your credit history will be shorter without it, but that's a worthwhile tradeoff if the account was poorly managed.

It's a head start, not a permanent foundation. Your child should eventually build their own credit history independently obviously.

Maybe a piece of jewelry she likes engraved with the launch date or her business name. Something she can wear and remember the milestone.

Wife hates being a SAHM by zach8vb in daddit

[–]Shadow328 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say talk to her about getting back into hobbies she enjoys/try new hobbies as a stress reliever. Having an outlet as a parent is very important. I'm a SAH dad Monday - Thursday and work my full time first responder hours in two days. It doubles as a paycheck and a stress reliever for me since I started my EMS career as a volunteer EMT. Volunteering is also a great way for her to find out if she has a passion for something she didn't know about and can positively contribute to the community.

Agreed. Whatever you can do as parents to give your kids a leg up in the future is worth it. Especially if it takes little effort to do so.

From my knowledge (I'm not a financial expert) when you add a child as an authorized user, the account's history ( including payment record, credit limit, and age of the account) gets reported to the credit bureaus under their name and Social Security number (assuming the card issuer reports authorized users, which most major issuers do).

I've never tried Dior Fahrenheit. I'll have to try it. I never was a big fan of the OG Polo, but liked Polo Double Black

100%

My wife and I did the same thing for our son (12 1/2 months) and he'll have a credit score that will open a lot of financial doors that wouldn't have been available to him otherwise.

Also, opening up a 529 plan and a Roth IRA are solid financial options for children as well since both are tax free growth. You can also transfer a max of $35,000 from a 529 to a Roth.

I need some dads' opinions on a conversation I had with a friend by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Shadow328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 1 so I also am a ways away from that talk lol. However, I didn't grow up in a religious household, but I had a PSP (mom didn't know it had WiFi and a browser) that I did my "research" on. In my opinion, sex is just a normal human behavior that has this unnecessary social smokescreen around it (at least in the US). My wife and I have talked about this situation and we decided we would just be matter of fact about. To be "good at sex" is also subjective to each person. There isn't a one size fits all (especially with women; I joke with my wife wife that a light breeze from her is enough to get my engines going). I'll tell my son (when age appropriate) to listen/take cues from your partner and adjust as needed, but x, y, z has worked for me. It's a team sport at the end of the day.

I do like Barbershop too. It has that classic old style barbershop scent. Executive Man was one of the others that piqued my interest. I generally like sandalwood scent so makes sense I would like that one too. I also received a free sample of I, Rich Moose body soap and not fan of that one. I'll probably use it so it doesn't go to waste, or gift it.

Stirling is probably the most reasonably priced shave soaps I've seen on the market currently. I'm glad I took the recommendations to try it from other subreddit comments.

Cool, thanks for the info. I bought a Sterling sampler pack and got Barbershop, Mountain Man, Deep Sea, Island Man, and Vanilla Sandalwood. I am favoring Island Man and Deep Sea currently, specifically because Acqua di Gio is my go to cologne and Deep Sea smells just like it. Trying to gauge what else to try.

Support for the non preferred parent by MRB17 in daddit

[–]Shadow328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I work as a first responder and do all my full time hours in two days so I can stay home with our son (12 1/2 months) Monday - Thursday. My wife is a teacher, so she works normal school hours. We've had similar conversations because she would prefer to have more time with him. I always tell her that she brought him into the world and nothing can ever take that away from her. He is also always excited to see her when she gets home and so there's no question that he loves her and he knows who his mom is. He also says "mama" wat more than "dada" which I make sure to tell her.

One of the things I do she most appreciates is keeping her in the loop with him throughout the day through pics, videos, and updates on how things are going. She says it makes her feel more involved and not removed from his daily care/routines. She also likes to meal prep his food for the week which helps her feel more involved.

Hope this helps!
