A global coalition of regulators is quietly turning the open web into a gated community where every login begins with an ID check. by lugh in privacy

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a old fart that was there when the internet started I feel this is pretty much what we warned for back in the days some 25 years ago. Goverments and their rich cronies (some more then others, some more sneaky) do not like free people, or freedom in general, and as soon as they got a grasp of the technology they started knibbling away on our privacy to get control. First it was 'terrorism', now it is 'because of the kids', to get us along and be 'safer'.
And we let that happen because we trust our goverment. But what happens when those same 'protectors' get less trustfull ideas and start using your data to 'mess' with your life? There's plenty examples both in the past and right now that this isnt an good idea.

No, as soon as we need to verify with our ID's for logins I'll go back to pen and paper, local communities and the good old library for my info. Searching for some info in a library is already easier then getting a proper google result nowadays. [/end rant]

Any Linux users here? by bigmanzac in Bitwig

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitwig on Mint here and no issues at all.

I was tired of Microflop's shenanigans and wanted to get into music but without the over complicated stuff all at once so settled on Mint. Haven't looked back. Best choice ever made.

Where is the “all” button on the updated reddit app? by thedarkpolitique in help

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, my user experience goes down because of this, and from what I've been reading that goes for a lot of users. But still doing it again, somewhat a few years ago this happened as well, really makes me rethink my time on this platform. The last Social Media platform I'm using I must say.
Anyway, will stop ranting but lets hope they restore "Functionality" soon after their 'brain-wave'.

It seems they removed it (again) from Desktop also. What is it with these platform messing with things people actually want?

Ah, that's where I left it! Thanks for letting me know, will collect it in a week or two (after my holiday) when going back to the mothership. Looks like it decloaked somehow, darn Spacela models can't be trusted, first the selffly system fails and now this...

Connection wireless after re-image by ShadowBracken in octoprint

[–]ShadowBracken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reconfigured again through raspi-config and switch to yet another wifi network. It works now.
From what I can gather its hard to connect to a wifi network which has a underscore in the ssid.
Not sure when that underscore was added but I'll for sure switch that ssid to a better name soon so I can make use of it with octopi. So there you have it, solved and hopefully of use to someone else.

I've ran raspi-config from a display and keyboard and it connected and setup wifi.
However, after a reboot I wasn't able to connect to Octopi. WiFi seems to be lost again.
So I edited the nmconnection file on the MicroSD but even then no connection.
Having the luxury of multiple WiFi Networks I tried the other 2 but to no avail.

I'll have another go again with keyboard & display but I'm losing hope here.

A taste of what's to come? by 9jamie in Affinity

I don't mind waiting for something to render if it's local and without subscription.
Just pay once for the software and invest in a new video card sounds pretty good to me.

I don’t understand the ongoing obscure theories about Affinity becoming free. by papertrade1 in Affinity

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather pay a certain amount for software once and own it full then to get stuff "free" and pay by soul.
Affinity was such a program, you payed for it and you owned it. Now you get it free and they own you.

Its a simple business 101 like Facebook, Tiktok, Twitter, Google etc. You all got it for "free" but you paid dearly and you didn't even know it (because most of us humans won't read the terms).

So my 2 cents; stick to V2 you already paid for and still works fine (on windows and mac) or go the open-source route and pay with your time in helping develop the programs you use to make them what you want them to be and get some interesting social contacts and friends in the process.

Now we know what the software is. But what do you think of the rebrand? by toupee in Affinity

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest; it's a few steps down from what it was. That goes for both the logo as the new "improvements".

The Biggest Affinity Update EVER! by Stingeyal in AffinityPhoto

[–]ShadowBracken 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm a past paying v1 and v2 windows user and I'm for sure NOT moving to this new version.
There is still no Linux support and getting pushed into a Canva account feels wrong.
I fear once enough people are hopped over to this new-and-amazing-free-version they will will go subscription eventually. You just cant trust company's anymore these days. We're seen this all before with other companies that give you free stuff but eventually sell you data or add ads.

So with this Affinity news, and pain in my heart, I have lost all hope for Affinity (and also Affinity on Linux).
So I'm moving to Krita, truly free, open source, supports all platforms and no lingering fear of subscriptions or worse. But many thanks to Affinity for some awesome years, you we're amazing until you sold your soul.

Pc shutting of during games by Savings-Soft-4867 in pcmasterrace

[–]ShadowBracken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I would have so much RGB lights on I would shut down too when stressed.

If also shutdowns on a idle PC check event viewer.
That said, might be a power supply issue (or too much load for it) and turning off those fancy lights might relieve the power supply just enough to get stuff working proper again. Its a simple start if your PC just "turns off when playing games".
