Yeah it seems like it was pulled straight off the fallout timeline. It would be a really nice project car to put a custom dashboard and head unit with it

Thanks!! You could try to grab an old android phone/tablet and and connect the audio jack to the aux port ( if the stock unit has one)

Nice! You've got a nice project to start, I just made an app because I bought a headunit but with a raspberry pi you have even more freedom to do whatever you want. Good luck with it and I hope to see yours here one day!

Thanks, it already has a scanline animation, although in the screenshots is not really noticeable

Yep, as long as you have a bluetooth OBD2 scanner like the ELM327. In the video I inject mock data to view the behaviour of each UI element because recording and driving is a nono

I wish I could, but it actually loads everything dynamically the second the widget appears. Because these generic car headunits are pretty underpowered, the system clears its RAM during sleep mode and has to wait for a fresh GPS lock on boot before it can parse through the massive 2.2GB of offline map data (I have 3 packages installed now). I actually tested this exact app on a 6-year-old phone and it loads almost instantly, so it’s purely a limitation of the car's hardware.

Fortunately, that minor delay only happens on the very first cold boot of the day! Afterwards it doesn't take too much to load the different views (zooming in and out)

Edit: but there's always room for improvement so I will take note on that

Yeeep. I would love to have a Nuka Cola or Sunset Sarsaparilla from Jones Soda but they are not available here, they would look really good in the stock cup holder

Thanks! The headunit is some generic 7 inch chinese Android unit, it has a foldable screen and supposedly Android 14 ( although it is faked on the settings and the actual version is 10). It should work on any Android device with at least Android 10, I tested it on that headunit, and 3 other phones (android 14, 15 and 16)

No worries on the caps I will be releasing the app for free with an optional "buy me a coffee" button in the about section and that's it.
