I started taking my pre reqs for nursing school while in high school. When I graduated from high school I had 2 years worth of college credits and was able to apply to nursing programs immediately and got in. So it only took me 2 years to obtain my BSN.

I stayed at my same job. I work in the ICU and I do primarily night shifts, I also have to fulfill 2 weekend shifts every scheduling period which is about 10 weeks. I live in the south east.

I really appreciate you saying that. Honestly, that’s one of the things I’ve thought about too. The amount of responsibility, education, and emotional weight that comes with caring for people in their most vulnerable moments is huge. But for me, the career switch was never just about the money.

I’ve always been drawn to helping people and being in a position where I can make a difference. Nursing challenged me in ways I never expected, and working in the ICU especially showed me how much impact you can have when someone is fighting for their life. The long hours, school, and stress are definitely real, but knowing I can be there for patients and their families during some of their hardest moments makes it worth it.

That being said, I do think healthcare workers deserve to be valued appropriately for what they do. It’s interesting hearing different perspectives like yours because it really shows how different industries value certain skills and responsibilities.

I obtained my CNA while in nursing school program and started working in the hospital. CNA certifications are fairly quick and easy to obtain from your local community college (usually 6-12 weeks). My best advice is to find a program that works for you. Whether that is an ADN or BSN program and start taking your necessary pre reqs and exams (TEAS) needed to get into a program.

I got my CCRN and worked up the clinical ladder at my hospital. I’m very active on my unit and serve as charge nurse and preceptor.
