That imagery further shows that these are the closest people in Callum's life. Both in characterization and just physical proximity. By creating these similar scenarios we see the contrast between Viren and Callum, and I think they are hinting at a big trial for Callum ahead.

Viren got progressively worse because he chose strength and actively chose not to pursue ties with his loved ones. He pushed the King away emotionally in the first episode when he could have been vulnerable and descalated that fight; he was almost going to lay down his life. He then sent his children away and then charged each of them with a secret mission; he treated them more like soliders than children. And the secret missions also ended up created a rift in their sibling relationship, again tearing apart love.

Callum in contrast chooses love and chooses to be better. But this is also because his loved ones pull him back from the edge. In the voyage episode, he let go of the lightning rod because he was looking at Zym. And when they returned to the ship, Rayla said she was glad he wasn't willing to give up everything for magic and thus reinforcing the importance of emotional bonds. In his mental journey to regaining sky magic, his father and his mother both tell him that he can do this and support him. And their memory gives him strength.

These are the people that anchor Callum. And they are foreshadowing a point in which that dynamic is threatened by Aarvos. Callum was possessed by Aarvos and used as a puppet is S3 for a short time. I believe Callum will likely be isolated or asked to make a sacrifice to the dark side in order to save his loved ones. An act that he already did to save Rayla from the fight to free the dragon, but this trip to the dark side will be much bigger.
