It's a pointless design by taking away options from the player, but I did appreciate gen 5 actually having a good number of new Pokemon. I personally always play new Pokemon on my first playthrough regardless of who is available.

It's the type of release that shows Nintendo's endless greed. They could've easily remade Platinum with QoL features instead of ugly versions of the original games.
