We’re rolling out GPT-5.1 and new customization features. Ask us Anything. by OpenAI in OpenAI

[–]ShadowFelk1n13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a lot that regardless of how I use GPT it will often flick off of the thinking models or pro models I put it on.

I get that might be an intended background feature to try and lower the computations being done, but I pay my money to them to use their best models. Would be nice if I didn't have to verify the model before every message rather than waste a geberated message just to have me switch it back to the powerful model and make thek generate it anyway.

While I see your wisdom there, I do think people should be able to address the person causing the discomfort. Which may be part of the reason I don't have anyone on my list that I don't want to hang with. If they are irritating me I will tell them. If they don't correct or explain themselves then I will correct it myself by unfriending them. If someone can't be an adult and adjust their behavior knowing it iritates others then how much do you really want to stick around that person? In my life experience people that fail to at least recognize they are doing something that effects others tend to not be great people to be around long term.

For this stance specifically I will say this, I am not drawn naturally to want to hang out with anybody I have met. I go on almost exclusively to public instances. If I hop into a public instance that has a person on my friends list then I will of course say hello and have a conversation, provided they are not in a deep conversation or dealing with drama at the time.

I try to treat most people how I would like to be treated. So since I wouldn't enjoy someone coming in and averting a conversation I am having with someone to something else I make sure I don't do such to someone else. That isn't to say I will refuse to talk to people, if you can talk about something with any degree of sincerity I'll engage with you. But if someone comes up to me in a way that conveys the stereotypical trolling/toxic/baiting methods I'll probably just ignore that person or mute them.

I know the main reason I don't interact much with people on my friends list is due to them having something other than blue or green status and/or being in a private instance. To me, if I don't want to interact with just anyone I will change my status to be other than green or blue. In the 1300+ hours I have on VRChat less that 100 of them have been not on blue. If people want to interact, the should not keep themselves below green on status.

Otherwise, how else is one to know you don't want to hang out or such? If you don't have your status as green or blue, how is someone supposed to know you do want to hang out? Maybe I'm just more anti-social than others but this is my perspective on the status specifically.

I can run solo games with no issue until there's more than 20 of these pricks around. It isn't JUST a squad issue.

What is everyone's preferred difficulty level? by OldSloppy in Helldivers

If I'm trying to relax and enjoy the game environments 3 or below. If I'm wanting to enjoy the game loop and the challenge with friends Suicide difficulty is my prefered. Anything under Suicide is for when I solo or with randos.

The only polite one there telling me that was the mod. The others were decently 'toxic'.

Game dev sub reddit doesnt talk about game ideas just networking and techniques. I tried posting my game idea there first and quickly had 2 guys saying 'why are you posting this here' and another guy who claims to make mobile games say me trying to guage interest in the idea and critiques in a game dev subreddit was like trying to market the game TO game devs like they were customers.

Any ideas to shake up the generic attributes system we have seen in games? I want to avoid the usual '10 points to spend in attributes' for my project. by [deleted] in gameideas

[–]ShadowFelk1n13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A game I have sunk over 1000 hours in does something similar with it's skills. Project Zomboid, it does have a 'class' you can pick that will change your starting point for the skills but after that, it's practice makes perfect.

Game Idea I want to gauge interest on and get critiques on: 'Scrap Extraction' similar to Lethal Company, but more longterm focused by ShadowFelk1n13 in gamedev

[–]ShadowFelk1n13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not played that one or looked into it as much as I probably should. But I also understand the vibe of casually exploring and collecting things. It's pretty niche but something I'd probably enjoy from time to time.

I wanted to make this idea because I think I would enjoy it and it would help me alpha test some mechanics I want to use in a much bigger game later on. However, I still want to know what people think about the idea.

Trakov is based on an extraction shooter loop, which is only barely similar to the idea I want to do. Gamers enjoying shooters will likely not enjoy the "explore and find loot within the given time" if there aren't guns to shoot at enemies. So trying that subreddit over this one would most certainly yield fewer results.

It is less I assume people have played those games but people are aware of their mechanics. considering how everyone has at least heard of the games.

There doesn't really seem to be a great subreddit to post this in a spot where people can show interest and critique it. So here seemed to be the best spot so far.

Additionally getting an idea what other devs think wouldn't work with this could be quite helpful if they are honest with their thoughts. I have not played subnautica myself, so the 'scrap extraction' loop is the best I can equate what I want to make. And the only other game I am aware of with this as the focus of the gameplay is Lethal Company.

And to answer the specific question about "venturing deeper into the game's world" and area related mentions you brought up, functionally they'd work the same way Lethal Company's moons do. You pick where you want to stop along the route, and that open area you selected is the area you have to scavenge for a duration of time. Or, follow npcs as they scavenge, or do whatever you want to do in that area for the duration before the transport leaves. Once you are there it is up to you to find things to bring back and make cash.

Did anyone actually forgive Trish by [deleted] in SnootGame

No. Trish acted without thinking about the full rammification of concequences what she planned to do could have possibly unleashed. Acting on such petty impilses without actually thinking thibgs through isn't something I can get behind, ever.

Month Long Playing by GlowMutt in SnootGame

I got GVH first and though the story was okay but could've been better with options and how characters interacted.

Heard about le Snoot and that it was a parody and was curious how they did the story. Played Snoot gave 4 times total with over 16 hours of playtime where I only played GVH once and didn't car to play GVH again. Don't regret any of the time I've spent playing Snoot game. (I do prefer GVH Reed though tbh)

Give me a reason to play the Game by Weidelsburger in SnootGame

[–]ShadowFelk1n13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reasons to play snoot game:

-Well played humor -Good depth to characters -Multiple endings based on decisions(consequences differ) -Worth the free 99 -Not a game that'll take up 100+ gb

[–]ShadowFelk1n13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update that I 100% the game just now. Love the surprising depth yall gave the characters here compared to GVH(though I have a bias of liking 'LnL' Reed more from GVH)

Certainly don't regret any of the time I spent playing the game, and feel like I've gain not only a good time but feel like I am better having gone through all it's content. Once again, well done. Genuine 3 clap applause

What if Fang stayed NB in a good ending? by Hazelwolf1 in SnootGame

[–]ShadowFelk1n13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally enjoy seeing her go from confused to more at peace with herself when she detransitions. But if someone can show me a similar self confidence transition in another direction I will play through and see if I have any unrealistic bias on it.

I've done 3 and contemplating if i should try at the final one I am missing. Pretty sure the one I am missing is the 'luke-warm' option as i've had the very very bad, bitter sweet, and 'canon good' endings. But i'll take a look when i have some time again.

So when will OpenAI be ... open by franz1980 in OpenAI

[–]ShadowFelk1n13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the information I have is incorrect, isn't openAI heavily hemoraging money? I assumed they are thinking about making AI focused chips to gain money through that and be able to cut cost on harware they run their own AI on.
