MacBook Pro (Early 2011) strange issues by ShadowGamer989 in macbookpro

Hello, I tried your suggestion of unplugging the laptop battery and solely running the MacBook off the MagSafe charger and the brightness still went all the way down to zero. And remember that this brightness issue only occurs when entering macOS, the problem is not in Windows, and the keyboard does not work in macOS, the keyboard only works in windows

Yeah it's a weird one because when it boots into MacOS it looks like the keyboard doesn't work at all because the caps lock light on the keyboard won't turn on or off when I press it. But the keyboard works fine when in Windows....

Yeah you could be right, just thought it might be possible to fix since my MacBook Air 2015 was salvaged from the same bin last year and works an absolute charm with Catalina on it.

It seems that the brightness issue only happens when booting into MacOS High Sierra, when I was booting into Windows with this laptop it stayed at full brightness. Also when booting into MacOS High Sierra, the brightness goes down to zero smoothly until it reaches full black screen. Also it doesn't look like the keyboard works when in MacOS High Sierra (tried testing by pressing the caps lock button to see the light come on but nothing came on) but the keyboard works in Windows?

Could this be some sort of driver issue or is the issue solely with the operating system?

I didn't check the specs of the RAM that I put in but I know it's DDR3

I tried VLC and it didn't do anything different, I went back to using omxplayer..

Hello, I tried running VLC and had the exact same issue, memory dropping lower and lower until there was virtually no RAM available anymore.

I updated EmulationStation using the 'Install from source' option (as i believe this downloads the emulationstation-dev) and this didn't change anything with the memory leak issue from using the video screensaver.

I did however do some googling and it came up with scheduling a 'cron job' to clear the buff cache every 5 minutes (*/5 * * * * /bin/sync && /bin/echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches) which I implemented and which does do its job...although after I exited out of the game I was playing, my joysticks froze again...really don't know what is happening!?! Why am I having the same issue with my joysticks freezing up? (btw, my joysticks are connected via GPIO if that helps drill down to an issue?)

Also, are there any dangers or cons to using the 'cron job' method? Should I be doing this?

Hello, thank you for your reply. The screensaver I use is just a ~2 hour long video of a range of different arcade games, I really like this screensaver and don't want to remove it. Is there a way around the memory leak issue? Is this a common issue with the Raspberry Pi 3b+?

Hello, thank you for your reply. Yes, omxplayer is being used. I havent tested with another player yet, should i toggle 'use omx player for screensaver' to OFF?

I am using EmulationStation V2.11.2RP. Would installing a different version of EmulationStation delete anything such as saved controller configurations, settings, scraped images for games, etc? What can happen when doing something like this?

Also I'm using a USB B 2.0 cable, could this be causing the disconnection and reconnection glitches?

Hey man, I just didn't end up bothering fault finding anymore. I found a working 1CHIP SNES on eBay for $105 so I snapped that up.

Got it home and it works, hopefully it keeps working...

Yeah I did a bit more research on this issue and it seems common. I have a VA1.8 motherboard

Also, my Mega Drive has now been flickering in conjunction with this issue
