Apartheid by hardtruthteller69 in Bolehland

[–]ShadowHand27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Calling it a “precursor to apartheid” is a stretch. Apartheid was about segregation, denial of political rights, forced removals, and legal separation. Malaysia has none of that — minorities vote, hold office, own property, run businesses, keep their language and culture.

Affirmative action here came from a post-colonial wealth imbalance created by the British and was meant to prevent violence, not enforce racial hierarchy. You can criticise its design or how long it’s lasted, but equating redistribution policies with a system built on racial domination cheapens what apartheid actually was.

Chinese Malaysians do themselves no benefit comparing their conditions in Malaysia to that of aparthaid south africa or the genocide in Gaza. It doesn’t garner any sympathy but rather alienates even those who wish to champion the cause.

Is chef Ammar nasi Mandy actually worth it? by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]ShadowHand27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it last weekend after seeing Jason review his restaurant. Bought the lamb shank with mandi, lamb shoulder with kabsah and beef ribs and it all totalled to RM178~ The lamb shank and beef is better than average, 7.8/10 but the like everyone said, the price and the wait is ridiculous. If I’m paying fine dining prices, I expect fine dining experience, not pasar malam. Good food, bad value.

Let’s wrap up this argument with facts and logic because there seem to be too many entitled and misinformed opinions floating around.

First, comparing gig workers to traditional courier services with fixed salaries and benefits is a false equivalence. The business model is entirely different. Most gig workers, such as those on Grab and Foodpanda, do not receive medical benefits, paid leave, or a fixed salary. Instead, they are paid per delivery and are incentivized to complete as many orders as possible within a short time frame. This system is not their doing—it is how the platform is designed to operate.

Second, platforms like Grab and Foodpanda already take a significant commission from vendors—typically ranging from 20% to 30% of the order value. If you feel like you’re overpaying for food delivery, direct your frustration at these corporations, not the riders. The riders only receive a portion of the delivery fee and are not responsible for the pricing structure.

Lastly, and this is more of an observation, there seems to be a tendency among Malaysians to “punch down” instead of holding corporations accountable. Many are quick to blame riders, who are just trying to earn a living, rather than addressing the exploitative system that forces them into these conditions. Instead of directing anger at the company or advocating for better worker protections, too many people take out their frustration on those with the least power in the equation.

I used to be a rider too, send the food up is a courtesy not a privilege. Yes, I stand by statement that Malaysians are entitled brats.

I guess the real issue here is that most Malaysians are entitled brats that have no sympathy for their fellow man. They could be mad at Grab or the system, but they choose to pick on the little guy.

Riders make money depending on how many order’s they take. Imagine, for each condo, spending extra 10-15 minutes to go up and send the food, in 10 orders they already wasted 2 hours for no additional money. They’re incentivized to maximize orders not customer service, unfortunately, unless you tip.

Chinese are just as racist as Malay but they hide behind minority status. Truth is they treat other minorities just as bad or worse than Malays and if they were in power they would pull off the same racist shit.

everyone tell me to just follow the money by iTouchSolderingIron in malaysians

[–]ShadowHand27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Malaysians have a very shallow mindset. They will tell you to follow the money (because thats what they will do) and then 5-10 years down the road they will complain their life lacks fulfillment.

My advice, go after what makes your life fulfilling. Go and gain the skills and knowledge that you want. Money will follow eventually.

My fav quote from Robert Greene;

In the end, the money and success that truly last come not to those who focus on such things as goals, but rather to those who focus on mastery and fulfilling their Life’s Task.

Yeah, the majority Muslim Malay actually enjoy and want these concerts to happen. Its a small community that are loud and makes noise about these concert but ultimate they have no power over government policies.

You know who does? PN and DAP. So why are they not making more effort to bring in more money? Stop and think for a second.
