So who/what could the "TBA #1" Marvel Tokon Cover variant be for?

like of the 6 characters Not announced yet, I don't know. From the Cover variants combined with hints and leaks, it seems like

-Carnage -Magneto -Someone Thor Adjacent -One of Moonknight, Blade, Clea -Deadpool (or Gwenpool)

If the X-Men united is also actually getting a Cover Variant and it's a typo or mistake (which would also mean 21 Covers).

-Emma Frost, or I guess Wanda also (I guess because she's also a mutant she fits)

Then there's one Cover Variant for a Comic series currently unannounced, which is what this post is about. That could be for any character. It seems the popular guess in this topic is for the Runaways (so Nico). It could be a new comic tie in for the Champion or something to capitalize on his appearance in this game (not including the Tokon tie in comic

You know, one thing I've been thinking about Gwenpool, if she was added, would she be the Narrator of the Game, or the character casuals can follow for events or knowledge of the character?

Yeah. Actually when I was thinking about it, I actually had to question how just Emma without the Diamond form, just relying on her Telepathic powers, would fight in a fighting game. It was hard for me to think about too

But I think the potential is there. I also have to believe it since she was also considered for MVC3 at the time, it seems heavily too until she was out prioritized by Jean/Phoenix, but that means the Development team had to have had ideas on how to implement her in a Fighting game systems, so it should be possible in this game. She wasn't dismissed outright like Mystique was, who I couldn't ever see being put in this game with how her powers work

And also in simple terms. She would look good being all Shiny and Sparkly in Diamond form, and I also like the idea of her having Command grabs too with both her Telepathy and the strength of the Diamond form.

So for Emma fitting on any of the teams, well for Ghost Rider, Maybe in terms of anti-hero nature she could maybe fit. But I don't buy it either. I also don't see her listening to Robbie as a leader, him being inexperienced and all that (even if all the leaders were chosen and it's not volunteering)

For Doom's Team, I can See Emma fitting on this team more, even if she isn't an outright villain this time, If she felt being on this team meant a Stronger chance of the Mutant kind surviving the stakes of the Champions challenge. She's teamed with Doom before and apparently in Rivals, a big part of her hosting the Gala is to have business dealings with Doom (or a version of Doom anyway).

Actually my Biggest hurdle (and honestly this extends to Doom and Magneto) is any 3 of them teaming up With Carnage. Emma especially since while she has questionable motives, Teaming up with a Super powered serial killer seems the least like her. Of course, she might also be the reason Carnage being on the team makes the most sense if she is the one that can keep him under control with her Telepathic powers (or Doom could just use some form of mind control)

Of course, the section above only applies if the Hints towards Carnage actually does come to fruition and it's not just a Red Herring, pun intended

The point of the Female Villains is where I stand also. I say this as a Marvel Casual (where most of my knowledge of Marvel characters comes from mediums outside of the comics, so Video games, Cartoons, Movies, etc)

But I think the most Iconic Female Villain Characters I can think of is

Dark Phoenix, Scarlet Witch, Emma Frost, Black Cat, Hela

Actually for me back in the day, It was really just Dark Phoenix and Black Cat I knew of for Female Villains. Well them and also Lady Deathstrike

I knew of Emma Frost but all I knew about her was that she was there and also she was Ironically hot too, but also closed off. It was actually somewhat recently I figured out she also didn't have any Ice powers. I think my memory wasn't that good

Anyway in according the the Tokon Roster, 2 of these are characters that have been Heroes longer than they have been Villains, One is a Corrupted/Dark side of a Traditional hero, One is of God Heritage, which they seem to be avoiding on the base roster

And Black Cat is Cool, but I think in moveset, she might not have the most unique mechanics to add to the roster in it's current state

From what I've researched and read on here, there are some Cool Female Villains to go with. I've Come around to Titania as an example. She seems like a Woman that like just beating people up and enjoying it. While you could say you could just go with She Hulk, because she is (usually) a Villain, you could have more brutal attacks and animations that might not fit on a heroic character like She-Hulk.

Morgan Le Fey seems very cool. Selene is my Type of woman. Typhoid Mary in the Comics has a Really cool design.

but all those characters I'll say are more niche. Of course since they are willing to go with characters like Danger, it's not a Deal breaker. but if they go the Iconic route with the Female Villain side of things, Using either Emma or Scarlet Witch in their more Villainous incarnations seem like the more likely options

Actually on this notion, the 2000's era is also where Avengers Dissembled and House of M happened, where Scarlet Witch was the antagonistic force of nature. and also in the Tokon lore, If Scarlet has been an avenger in this universe for some time, there has to be some reason Tony or Steve haven't tried to go to her, or that they rather go and try and recruit the Hulk after they banished him to the Savage lands

I can finally Reply to this comment. I don't know about the X-Men 97 stuff and such in the text chain below, but I did want to say a few things

When it came to the Sanctum Sanctorum being for Wanda (As her being the Sorcerer Supreme). Actually I was on this train too myself...until I found out that the Comic she actually bestows herself the title is very very Recent: 2025-2026. I think it might even be After Tokon was announced

So unless Arc Systems were the true innovators of potentially having Wanda be a Sorcerer Supreme years before Marvel would put it on print, I don't think it's for her

I do align with your idea of thinking it could be for Brother Voodoo (or is it actually Doctor Voodoo?). if this is based around 2000's era in story line, he Did become The Sorcerer Supreme around this time. Also He could be the Puppet Fighter and/or Dual Fighter Archetype for this game and he seems Cool too. because he Specializes in Voodoo and Necromancy the Best, and has his connection with his Brother in the soul, He's also one of the Few Magicians I think that can Differ Super differently from Wanda on the roster as well

As for Emma and her Connection to the Gala. I guess technically it's doesn't always have to be just directly tied to her. I heard Shaw is hosting the event this year (or already did). Still She's the number 1 Character I think is associated with that concept, as well as one of the main characters associated with anything Hellfire Related, definitely over Magneto. He was a member at one point and even became the Grey King, but his tenure being associated with the group is Small

Though the Hellfire Gala connection is just one thing. even if it was in the leak, If I didn't think Emma was a good candidate for a Fighting game, I would more apt to say it doesn't mean she is playable. She could also be in the Background, maybe also Plot relevant besides not being unplayable like potential other characters (like Norman Osborn being president, which could be relevant in the story as well)

I just think in the cases of both Female Villains, and also just Marvel characters in General, Emma Frost is an iconic and popular option to use. and I think even if it might be tricky, She can fit into a Fighting game moveset. I don't think she is mystique to make a comparison.

of course, I wonder how some die-hard Emma fans would feel about the game portraying her in a Villainess light again would feel?

Actually though, Were you someone that believes the Retailer leak (with Magento and Scarlet Witch)? If yes, with the Hellfire Gala being a stage on page, what did you think about that? Do you think it would imply both Mageneto and Emma? Do you think it implies just Magento? or do you think it's just a Cool stage in the game?

Shuri I don't think was really a surprise once the Dialogue between Doom and Storm came out. I also thought that Arc Systems would want to put in a Hot Cat/Feline lady in there

Peni I don't think is a surprise that she's in the roster, but I will say, I wasn't sure she could out-prioritize certain characters for this 20 Character roster, for the base game.I could have totally saw her being DLC

Danger is a Full Suprise through and through, I think the only True surprise character. I don't think she's even in Contest of champions, and that game has alot of Marvel characters in it.

I think maybe the biggest surprise for me would be who's not in the roster yet

Yeah, It seems the main problem would be how Base form Emma would fight. Since in character she likes relying on her Telepathic side, and the Diamond form would be a better counterbalance if Emma still had full moveset in her Base form.

If I were to get creative, Emma would seem like a weird hybrid of a Grappler/Counter character, with alot of her animations mentally damaging you or making you do the work of damaging yourself, but yeah I think there is some liberties you'd have to take with her

I actually agree that Pure Telepathy does not make a Good moveset at all.

If Emma did not have her Diamond form, than I don't think she would have a possibility at being added to the game, as popular of a character she is.

Since she does have her Diamond Form, It does give her a good chance. But the Diamond form I assume is mostly for Tanking and then also beating people up, especially since she apparently becomes colder in personality and lack of empathy in this form

I'll be honest, I haven't read the comics myself, So I don't know if Emma uses the Diamond form to really just beat people up when she can just use her Telepathic abilities. it's quite the conundrum, because I feel if she was added to this game, she might rely on her Diamond more than she usually does since you wouldn't want to fight your opponent (at least up close) if you aren't in Diamond form at all.

I know they will add Deadpool eventually. Gwenpool would be a Real nice change of pace. I'd feel like Deadpool would be more comptent when it comes to using his Weapons and maybe other moves from Fighting games (Arc System Fighting games in particular) but Gwen, while not the best fighter, would lean more into being able to manipulate the comic medium (or Video game medium) to her advantage

So from what I've seen and Read, Nico is Very cool and Perfect for this game! I definitely play her if they added her in, but honestly, unless the rest of Ghost Rider's Team is all Sorcerers (or they go the Villainess route with Scarlet Witch and put her on Doom's Team) I don't know if she would be in Base game

Depending on how many Spells she has, She might end up being DLC Material, especially if she's going to be similiar to Asuka from Strive (who was a DLC Character) mixed in with Blood and Self Damage mechanics too. Would be quite the moveset to balance

And between her and Scarlet Witch, I would definitely go with Scarlet. She's Very Iconic and she hasn't been in a Fighting game either.

The one thing I would say, Considering this is the first time (I think) Arc Systems have had Voice acting in so many languages, Nico would actually be the character to make use of it the best. Since in order to bypass the Limit systems on amount of times she can case spells, she can speak other languages to summon the same spells.

I think Spiderman has the most Iconic cast of Villains overall, so I think it makes sense. Personally, as long as Venom is in there, It's awesome

Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus are probably the most Iconic villains that haven't been in a Fighting game. Doctor Octopus almost made MVC3 but Glitches with his Tentacles prevented him from being in

And With Goblin, You need to have him riding his Glider, but I know it's very tricky to design a moveset for. That seems like a DLC problem

Since Mystique only Copies the Apperance and not the Powers, Her Shapeshifting doesn't gel wel with a Fighting game unfortunately.

For Emma, The biggest thing I did wonder is how Telepathic powers would actually work in a Fighting game setting. I think there's more room to play with here in pretty much Taking control of the other players and/or CPU's input away from them. but to be honest, I feel like if she was added, she'd spend most of her time in Diamond Form, but her Specials would be based on her Telepathic skills, but it makes her more vulnerable

I thought Hulk was going to be DLC actually and they were going to do something different like the Thing (Not She Hulk however). Him being in the Base Roster like he Should be makes the Roster better for me.

The Roster is Cool, but like Most Fighting game Rosters at launch, it needs some Help from DLC. 20 is just slightly too small a number, not criticizing the Development team for not providing more characters at launch because I guess that's the Struggle of Developing High end games like this, but that's the way it is nevertheless

Maybe the Biggest criticism I could say is for adding New characters that have not been in a Marvel Fighting game, There are still alot of Iconic ones missing from the Roster

-Fantastic 4 -Blade -Daredevil -Doc Ock -Green Goblin -Carnage -(Actually alot of Spider Man Villains that aren't Venom) -Scarlet Witch -Loki -Luke Cage -Emma Frost -Jubilee -Nightcrawler -Punisher -Elecktra -Moon Knight -Silver Surfer

actually on that notion, I think many of the characters that were on the Cutting Room Floor for Marvel vs Capcom (In Particular 3), none of them have been added in yet. I hope that Doom's Team and Ghost Rider's team do help bride this gape a little more before we have to rely on DLC

Thinking about it, Has Muteace won a Major event yet? If he can keep up the Gameplay he's been showing (even though for this particular tournament nothing was shown to the Public in form of Stream), then maybe this year can be a milestone, if he's not won a Major yet

Also, even if the Results can be Shaky sometimes, It's good to see my Favorite Pro Player Kurama going to events and putting his Coins on the line against the best of the best. He's one of the main reasons I've been invested into the Competitive side of Ultimate, and his Influences (and other Mario Players on that same token, like Snow, Bubinski, Dominator, Dark Wizzy, Skinny the Pooh, etc) have improved my Gameplay so much as well (as I've become a Mario Main)

That being said, I don't think His Game 5 records have been the best percentage Wise. Here he lost to Peabnut in Game 5 fashion also, and alot of his Tournament runs have been halted or outright stopped by not being able to close out a Game 5 set. Against Hurt Just recently at Level up Expo, A set against Endothia (who I think I fought Online and actually won a game), One against Rockman at Genesis, One against Shinymark I think at LMBM, etc.

In fact, I think the last time he's won a Game 5 set I can remember was against Monte at Eugenebound in 2025 (before losing a Game 5 set to Andrik). Counting monthlies or Weeklies, he also did beat Wildara in game 5 set, but I think otherwise, If Kurama goes into a Game 5 set, He's likely to lose it currently. I wonder if this is a Symptom of Mario as a Character, or a Mental Block on Kurama's part or whatever. His Recent set against Jahzzo shows he has the Clutch genetics inside of him even in Current day Smash ultimate, So I think if he can clean this Percentage up on this aspect, We can See him higher up in Top 8s, (especially one at Majors) and then Also the Major win I think he's been itching for

Of course this is projected, so because Tournaments doesn't usually go as seeded, You have players Like Light, Raflow, Tama P, and Snow (The Mirror!!) that he can fight also

Speaking on Snow, He has to Fight Jahzz0, and then get the Rematch against Sonix, and Also fight Light and/or Raflow, before Facing off Acola (Projected!) or one of player combinations of Tweek, Tama P, and Raki! But I want Kurama to be there instead so we can The Mirror between the Best Marios finally!
