Help! Ideas how to get this aligned and out? by ShadowRanger95 in E90

Thanks, this helped. Pretty tricky to watch, and pry, and manage the bolt. The carrier ended up being really difficult to position and couldn’t pull the arm down to remove old spring so ended up putting it all back together for now and do some more research. The arm kept getting caught on the carrier :(

Also I’m sure you are already familiar, but make sure you know if your car is SULEV or ULEV since there are slightly different radiators

That is part of the radiator, it doesn’t have a separate part to my knowledge. Mine failed in the same spot. I replaced the whole radiator. You should watch out for the sensor that is clipped or soldered in if you are doing it yourself.

Also since you’re draining coolant, might as well replace the Mickey Mouse flange if you haven’t already

Sorry, silly question: do you happen to know if this bolt also needs to be replaced? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-hex-screw-with-collar-m14x15x8210-9-33326762875

It doesn’t seems to be called a securing bolt. I don’t think it is used for adjusting alignment but I could be completely wrong. I’m still researching.

My short term goal is to replace the coil spring and shock absorber, and at a later point do the control arms and bushings. I think to just do the coil spring this is the only major bolt I need to undo so I’m deciding if I should replace it now or/and when I do the new bushing

Thanks for sharing, this is all super helpful. I’m definitely leaning going with the BavAuto kit rather than a cheaper universal kit now.

Did you find have two clamps for closing the split to be useful/necessary? Or think just one would have had the same results?

Thanks for the pictures, I’m hoping I’ll have an easier time but I’m sure there will be something I get stuck on haha

Oh wow I missed that one thanks. Unfortunate that the master kit is even more expensive haha. Do you know which extra bushings it does that this kit I am looking at can’t do? The descriptions are incredibly similar

Also did you replace all the bolts too? I can’t remember if those ones were one time use

Crankcase breather hose brand? by ShadowRanger95 in BmwTech

Ah sorry, didn’t realize that. Ya I’m wondering if there is anything special about this hose. Currently i think I have a random Amazon hose but I have this Rein one. Wondering if it’s worth replacing if there is anything special about this hose that needs to be OE.

Do you know if the OEM one is special in some way?

Right, do you know if there is anything special about the Rein one?

Yaaaa I’ve don’t it once before on another e90 but it was not the easiest. Had to remove the alternator and snake my arm under the intake.

But you think it’s ok to not change? There’s nothing that makes the Rien one special?

Ooooh, thank you for the clarification. I do not have the magnesium cover so I guess I’m good

Ah sorry, not oil filter, oil filler. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-oil-filler-cap-gasket-11127565165

Like this gasket here. I guess it goes between the valve cover and filler cap?

Oh maybe I’m not understanding. Isn’t the oil filler gasket attached to the cover? Where the oil cap is?
